    There is a difference between Toslink and Adat, they both use similar connection type, but I think you are trying to convert Spdif into toslink, yeah you can use a CO2 for that purpose. They are $50 a piece and works great.

    Make sure your cable is running from Left and right mixer outputs to a STEREO 1/8 soundcard line in jack. Check your mixer and soundcard panning.

    Use Microsoft paint that comes with windows. Open the image in paint, Then go to "IMAGE" -> "Stretch Skew" and give 30% in both horizontal and vertical.
