    new experimental tune

The guitar work is great. One thought... the quieter section needs some guitar variation instead of that same phrase several times in a row. The chorus has an Audioslave feel, especially with that whacked-out wah stuff. Totally sweet... except for the computer-generated drums. They spoil even...

    a song of mine...suck/notsuck?

Interesting writing. Personally, I think playing with the tempo is okay. It's normal in non-pop music! I like the weird time signatures. The biggest problem... the strings are way out of tune. Relative to the acoustic guitar and voice (which I am considering "in tune"), the violin is quite...

Funky Rock Metal tune, take a listen, you may just like it

Good songrwriting. I like the verses alot; they have a very original sound (to my ears). Good mix. I don't like metal guitar, so I would use more of a hard rock tone. The verses feel heavier than the chorus. I would remove the atmospheric things in the chorus and make it heavier than the...

    "Blue Wall"--blues/prog/garage...?!

"The tune have some nice turns, but it needs more rehearsing. and better tracking, and levels." I'm not sure what you mean by tracking. The levels are right where I want them. On the chorus, the crash cymbal is supposed to be loud. The vocals are supposed to sound almost buried by the other...

    "Blue Wall"--blues/prog/garage...?!

I think the problems people are hearing with our stuff happens when they're uploaded to Purevolume. The files sound great as WAV's. Darned Purevolume! So, yeah, the mp3 quality sucks. Thanks for the replies.

    "Blue Wall"--blues/prog/garage...?!

rayc, Thanks for the thoughts. The drums were recorded with one mike. The song is supposed to have a "raw", less-than-professional feel. I mixed the drums a bit louder than I normally would because I wanted those crash cymbals in the chorus to really dominate the sound. Hmm, I thought the...

    "Blue Wall"--blues/prog/garage...?!

Check out our new song, "Blue Wall." I wrote this and recorded the guitars and bass and lead vox. My brother did the drums and backup vox. Guitars were recorded mostly with a 5-watt tube amp, bass DI'd. http://www.purevolume.com/postscriptoh Let me know how the quality of the mp3 is. The...

Thanks guys. I'll check those out.

    fresh-baked acoustic rock!

There is very little, if any, reverb. There is some on the vocals, I believe, and on the spoken part near the end (way too much there!), but there is none on any of the instruments. I'm not sure what the problems are that have been pointed out. I don't hear them. But thanks for the feedback...

    fresh-baked acoustic rock!

Thanks. I will see about cleaning it up. Maybe my brother rendered it too low or something.

    fresh-baked acoustic rock!

Hmm, I didn't notice anything bad about the quality. Perhaps we have low standards... :) It was recorded mostly with a large mixing board (not ours, I don't know the brand or model) and good mikes, Audio-technica and AKG (mostly AKG). It WAS recorded in a large room (a church sanctuary), so...

    fresh-baked acoustic rock!

Hey, My band, Postscript, finally finished mixing one of our older songs, "Running Nowhere." The song started as a progression written by our bassist Alex. The rest is history... :) I play bass on this song. (I'm usually the guitarist.) Enjoy... I'd appreciate any feedback, good or bad. :)...

    a friend's metal madness

Hey, My friend's band, Guttural Rentch, just uploaded one of their songs. I personally don't like this song (or band) at all, but check it out if you're interested. http://www.purevolume.com/gutturalrentch

    please review our lastest song

Smooth acoustic sound. Vocals very strong. The backing instruments mesh well to create a lush sound. Yes, you should get live drums going. Drum machines are a poor replacement for the real thing. It's a little late in production for this, but you may want a change of chord structure at some...

    old school tune

Actually, the instruments are panned already, though not extremely. I've gotten feedback on another forum where somebody liked the "wide stereo pan"! :) Thanks.

Mixdown of our band - feedback please

Hey, it sounds great. Good guitar tone. I think I hear a push-pull amp just on the edge of breakup? One thought: the vocals sound like they weren't sung very loud. I've discovered that you can get a more "intense" vocal if you move farther away from the mike and sing louder. With a setup like...

Thanks guys. I feel inspired to make it sound better.

    old school tune

Thanks for the thoughts. I think the organ and guitar are battling for the midrange, which is probably part of what you were talking about. I know what you mean about the bass! I actually already did some manual "compressing" (using "volume envelopes" in Acid). Our bassist has a way of playing...

    old school tune

Hi, new here. Here's a song I wrote and our band recorded. It's called "Twilight." It's about two years old now. This isn't a totally typical song for our band. We do mostly rock, not old school, but anyway... Oh yeah: guitar parts recorded with a 5-watt tube amp I built (a Champ). Whoops...
