    next/most important step

I say the best idea is to just save your money until you find something you really want. You're obviously content with your recording environment and mixing abilities. If you're going to treat your room (which I don't think you should at this point), I would say treat the room you mix in first.

    Subtle Saturation Plug-In?

Not free but the PSP Vintage Warmer is probably the ideal plugin you're looking for.

    Making Recordings Sound as One

Honestly, a good amount of cohesion comes from the mastering process when you use multi-band compressors, limiting, saturation, etc. When you apply an effect to all of the tracks it unites them sonically.

    harvesters and drive-bys - a dobro "cover"

Haha I can never listen to one of your songs without thinking of Damon Albarn and Beck (not a bad thing though).

Help! Clicks on recordings threatening my sanity

Do you hear it in playback in the DAW or only when you render a wav/mp3?

Any suggestions on how to mic a guitar amp in stereo??

Yes. A lot of keyboards and synthesizers are capable of recording in stereo. Or even some electronic drumkits. In fact, guitars can be recorded in stereo from a pedal that is capable of producing a stereo signal like a stereo delay.

    What DAW do you use?

    FL Studio. It's awesome.

    Self-recorded an EP

Hey guys, I just released an EP. It took me 6 months and around 200 hours of work to complete but it's done. I produced, mixed and mastered the album all by myself. I even created the album art. Take a listen and lemme know what you think...

Should I Leave a Margin of Decibels For Mastering?

I'm mastering in Ozone and by default there's a .3 db margin on the maximizer/limiter. It also says in the manual to make sure there's a .3 db margin. I was wondering if you think it's necessary. It doesn't clip when I take the margin away but the manual says that maybe it will clip on other...

    defective

dat bassline <3 You kinda do sound like damon albarn actually. I'm listening to your other tracks on soundcloud. They're pretty dope. I get a Beck vibe from you. I hear the 90's again.

This sort of reminds me of Warpaint. Not in a bad way though.

Doing basic tracks in (gasp) a pro studio. Advice?

Okay, so if you track your songs in the studio, how do you plan on mixing/mastering them? Are you gonna do it by yourself?

    Recording tambourine....

Getting a quality tambourine is crucial to getting a good sound as well. I went to the local music store and tried out all of them and came out with the best sounding one. I actually use tambourine on about half my tracks.

Is this weird that I like mixing vocals like this?

If it sounds good, it sounds good.

    Advice for Mixing

Thanks for the tips guys! It's actually not that difficult of a task so far. I just started from scratch and only had to throw a few compressors on things that I didn't before. I kept the same EQing and it sounds fine still. The vocals are blending way better now.

    Advice for Mixing

So I just decided to re-mix everything and I think it's solving my problem of mixing the vocals in. I just want to make sure I'm mixing at the right levels though. Also, how dynamic can a mix be? My mix is way more dynamic (not necessarily in a better way) now that the limiter is off. Will...

    Advice for Mixing

When you create a new project in FL Studio, it automatically places a limiter on the master bus. I wasn't aware this could have really detrimental effects until I started trying to mix in vocals and there was pretty much no headroom. All my tracks were pushed REALLY hard. Without the limiter...

    Vocals Sound Louder in Headphones

I'm trying to mix a song right now. When I mix on speakers, the vocals sound too loud when I play it back on headphones. When I mix it on headphones, they sound too quiet on the speakers. Any tips to minimize the discrepancy?

High End Buzz on Tube Amp Recording

I don't hear anything that wrong with the recording. But I'm not listening with headphones right now. If you're getting a high end buzz you could just noise gate or EQ it out. Look up noise-reduction tutorials for your DAW.

    Home Recording's Dirty Little Secret

I just started out recording because I wanted to make demos and eventually show them to someone to get them professionally recorded. I never thought I would get as good as I am now in such little time (it's been a little over a year). Now I prefer to do all the recording myself. I can achieve...
