n e opinons on the First Act USB cable?

How much is it? Assuming first act quality, it likely won't be anything close to hi-fi but for getting down ideas and practicing, it could be worth it ... if it works..

how to have more dynamic recording with pro tools ??

Southside Glen has a similar resource on his website. Both very important to understand. http://www.independentrecording.net/irn/resources/metergain/index.htm

"The Get Down" mix help please

With all things considered, I made this new mix. Hopefully it can bring a little more life to the song. Thanks for the comments. I needed some new ears, I felt stuck. http://www.ericgieg.com/music/The%20Get%20Down%20M2.mp3

    New Instrumental Metal Song "Vision"

Cool playing, I like your lead sounds. I would suggest if you wanted a more defined sound, go less on the reverb. Some of it seems to mud up in the rhythm and background. Keep up the good work. :)

    Need some fresh ears

Cool song. Almost too wet for me. When he says "you keep pushing me", the midrangey guitar sounds a little out of tune to me.. Great kick sound but I think it is a little slappy for the slower rock song. But if you love the sound, who's stopping ya.:) As usual, good work :)

003 rack distortion on line inputs 5-8

That would be a relief if this were the case. Though I havent updated within the past few months, I do believe I've updated fairly recently. I'll give it a try, thanks for the heads up. :)

"The Get Down" mix help please

Heyhey, Just had a group come over yesterday and tracked this one song. Looking for some advice how I can possibly pep it up a bit. It in some way feels lacking and I'm not sure where. First Mix http://www.ericgieg.com/music/The%20Get%20Down%20M1.mp3 Second Mix...

003 rack distortion on line inputs 5-8

Hey all, I've had this problem for a while now but have not been able to diagnose it .. hopefully you guys can be of some assistance. My line inputs on channel 5-8 have a distortion on the tracks. There is a point in the level that the signal will clip even though it is much below 0 db. The...

    Tascam M-216 Monitor Question

Not exactly sure about the problem but I think I found a source for the pdf manual. http://www.softwaredriverdownload.com/tascam_m-216_manual.html Hope that can help. There is also a tascam and an analog section of this forum. Some of those people are likely more familiar with your dilemma...

    sm57 on a snare

I've been astounded with how much your snare sound can change with small microphone placement adjustments. With skinned drums (to me), those fine adjustments are most noticeable in the sound. What one inch one way can change on a snare drum is a lot greater than one inch one way on a guitar cab...

My distortion sucks and i don't know why...

If you want to research this topic farther. I suggest reading this article. http://www.badmuckingfastard.com/sound/slipperman.html Goes into great detail on aspects of recording distorted guitars. Probably one of the best (if not the best) articles written on the subject... Good luck!

    Looking for WARMER/Richer vocals

Turn your fader on your DAW up for monitoring. Record your levels at -9 dbfs peaks. Try different headphones to monitor unless you can boost the headphone output on your interface. Do not add more gain to hear yourself during monitoring. Please, just try using a high shelf eq and dipping out 5...

    Looking for WARMER/Richer vocals

So microphones are only for one time use? Do you lick your mics? What if your friend offers to let you borrow a few neumanns or some high end mics that have been used. You won't sing into them since someone else has breathed on it? Hope youre kidding..

    Looking for WARMER/Richer vocals

I'm glad you did your research but I'm just not convinced that getting a new m-audio preamp got you that much farther to achieving a warm sound. I'm glad you sense that you've made progress.

    Looking for WARMER/Richer vocals

There's pre's popular for their color that they add to the signal. Some are meant to be as pristine and clean gain as possible, some impart a bit of their own flavor on the signal. But let's not digress. :)

    Looking for WARMER/Richer vocals

A condensor mic requires less gain than a dynamic mic. A dynamic mic will usually get closer to pinning the gain. You should also be recording at around -9db signal peaks (since you're recording digital). Your average level can be somewhere around -18 dbfs. I can suggest you get some ribbon mic...

    Looking for WARMER/Richer vocals

I just listened to your clip, sorry I didn't read it on the first pass. It seems like your mic is capturing your voice pretty well. Try and eq out some of that treble content. Maybe then you'll feel your vocals are more "warm". Explore your processors beyond their presets. Every song is...

    Looking for WARMER/Richer vocals

You say it's too "live" sounding. That's usually a word referring to reverberant. Maybe you could record it in a space that has less high reflections. Say on a carpeted floor, or between some Owens Corning 703 panels. This will make your vocals less "live". But that's if my interpretation is...

    Am I deaf?

Try listening at louder volumes. ie."85 db". You can hear a lot more detail in the sounds and these uses of compression can be discerned more easily. Read the excerpts and concentrate on what theyre saying. You could even save them and load them into your daw. This will allow you to actually...
