Mmmmaybe! What kind of "fun things" are you going to be recording? :)

    PA's/mic amplification

You shouldn't get too much feedback that way - provided your singer stands in the appropriate place and doesn't go pointing the mic at the speakers, although I think you'd have to crank it reeaaally loud to be able to hear your singer and that would seriously deteriorate your vocal sound?

Proper mic technique for vocals / LD condenser mic??

OK... I think what Bruce is trying to say is that you don't need to go right up to a large diaphragm to get that "warm/breathy/intimate" sound. I think most people would agree that to get the most "natural" warm sound from a LDC you need to be at least 6 inches to a couple of a feet away...

D750? Is there such a thing? I can't find it on their website - only a D770 dynamic stage mic.

Proper mic technique for vocals / LD condenser mic??

I suggest you first of all find an ideal distance between between mouth and mic without the pop filter, then once you have that, place the pop filter about 1/3 or the way from the mic to your mouth. So if you think standing 20 inches back from the mic gives you a good sound, place the filter...

Anyone had experience with Shure Beta 58?

You say SM58 but your thread title specifies Beta 58 - so which is it? Either way they're both pretty good for the job. Get the Beta if you have a weaker voice.

    Good Headset Mics?

Check out the Shure UT UHF Wireless mic system. It has a WH-20 headset mic. Probably around 4-500 bucks.

    Shure 58 vs Beta 58a - what's the difference??

zip, yes, there is a noticeable difference between the Beta58 and the SM58 - which are both geared towards vocals. The Beta 58 is essentially an upgrade to the SM58 though many people still prefer the SM for whatever reasons. The Beta is a good deal louder than the SM and has a tighter pickup...

NT3 or C1000S for piano rec.?

if you can afford it, go for a ribbon mic (do a search) over a condensor. If your choice is strictly limited to the above then I would err towards the Rode, however I don't have much experice with C1000 I must confess.

    mic patterns vs feedback

Yes, mics can often feedback depending on their pickup pattern and the location of any loud sound sources. This is very important in a live situation. A mic with a cardiod pattern (eg SM58) picks very little noise from the 'back' of the mic, ie the end where you connect the cable. So in this...

    Restarting an old discussion: T H E Bassdrum-mic?

Matey I woulndn't waste a U47 on a kick drum! There is no such thing as THE kick drum mic, but I'll offer a few suugestions: EV RE20, AKG D12 or D112 (as you mentioned), Beyer M88 (my favorite), Sennheiser 421, Shure Beta 56 or SM57. Kick drums are like women, You gotta experiment.

    Are Mackie mixer the best?

Uhhhhh Well it depends what you need the mixer for! Are Mackie's the best mixers in the world for large arena tours? No, I don't think so. Are they the best if you're recording a large-budget album that requires 50 or more tracks? No, I don't think so. But are they good if you need say 8-24...

    Impulse spending and Audix mics

Wow, that sounds like a very good buy. Let us know your results with the OM's on those instruments. BTW, has anyone ever tried an Audix OM on a guitar amp? If so what do you think?

    Mic Line-Up

I suggest you DI the bass and use the spare SM57 as a bottom mic for the snare. What are your options for vocals?

software plug-ins vs hardware rack effects

Well in theory, I guess the answer would have to be yes. I don't have much experience with plug-in FX, however I have heard that many people still seem to prefer the "genuine" external FX to the plug-in. Someone else will have to help out on this topic...

What's Best for Live Voc's, Condenser or Dynamic

Scheisskopf99, the Beta's _are_ Shure's. They are a series of Shure mikes that are more expensive than the Shure SM series. It is debatable whether a Beta 57 is worth the extra money over an SM57. I own both and personally I feel that in the case of guitar, it isn't, but in terms of vocals, it is.
