yea to add on on to the other guy, you don't "need" much of these things. you can get by with headphones, but you will quickly get sick of it. i'd say get a nice pair of active monitors, you can get some great ones for pretty decent prices.
i use alesis mk1 active MKII pair and i love them...
you wouldnt want to send compression to an aux. aux's are for effects. mixing in compression like that wouldn't do much, if anything, to the level of the signal.
i been searching for a drummer for the past few months too. i have a few friends that i jam with but they aren't into the whole starting a band thing. kinda sucks.
i agree with everything you just said :)
i tried for the longest time to get a more "expensive" mike than the 57 for recording guitar amps, thinking that there has to be something that can do it better.
well, all i've accomplished so far is buying a lot of microphones that i do not use! so i...
yea i heard good things about the 421 on toms. i need to get one of those.
definitely sm57 on snare.
i also heard good things about the e604 on toms, the little clip mics. im thinking of getting one of those to see how they fair.
i can tell you what NOT to get. a few people said the e609...
"the best" will differ from person to person.
i love my cat, she is the best.
although "best" may not stay equal from person to person, it still exists.

any preamp or mixer that has phantom power also has a switch to turn it on and off. dynamic mic's do not use phantom...
i just want to say thank you to everyone for making this such an amazing place to discuss things, look for advice, new equipment, etc. i built my microphone collection based on suggestions from this forum and i haven't been steered wrong since!
kudos to everyone!
ok so i put together a bantam patch bay and 1RU mic panel on my rack, and also added a samson s-phone headphone amp and normaled all inputs and outputs through the bantam patch bay.
now when i playback anything in pro tools, after i pause it or stop it, i get a REALLY LOUD SCREECH! almost...
anyone who makes their own cables out there? if so have you used teflon tubing to cover the ground/shield before you solder? if so, what size are you supposed to get, i'm having trouble figuring that out.
and what's the deal on heatshrink around the tips? how does that work and what size also...
ok so i got an adc 96 point tt bantam patchbay off ebay. accidently i purchased it half-normalled, so i had to resolder the entire thing to make it normalled. fine, did all that.
now i'm putting all the wires in the back, but when i use my continuity tester, the two ground points dont have any...
any oils from your skins will eventually create a "bubble" type blister on the glass, which will eventually either crack or pop the tube. that goes for any professional grade lamp bulbs as well (like the lights you see on stage).
