After hearing the band live, I don't think I can capture the bass players tone with just a DI. I am going to see what the direct out of his amp sounds like (assuming he has one), but I think it would help to mic the cab as well. I could always use the 57 and get the bottom end from the DI. I...
I am recording a band this weekend & will be running the bass direct as well as miking the cab (4x10). I will have an AT 4033, a SP B3, a Marshall V67, and a SM57 available. Which would you suggest? Is it best to mic close like you would a guitar cabinet, or should I mic it from a few feet...
I really like the drum sounds on 'Girls Can Tell'. I have been waiting for a friend to lend me 'Moonlight' so I can hear that one. It would be very cool to see them post here.
If you place the overheads properly, you should get plenty of tom & hihat from those. Maybe try the '2 sticks' method (https://homerecording.com/bbs/showthread.php?s=&threadid=39030) with the yamahas for oh, a 57 on each snare, d112 on kick, and maybe mic the bottom of your main snare with the...
I've read many times on this board that excessive use of eq can cause phase problems. Wouldn't the Looney Tunez method introduce phase issues in the lower frequencies?
Chessrock- Where exactly are you putting them? What mics are you using? We have been having trouble getting enough toms in the mix without the cymbals too hot. We have been using the '2 sticks from the snare, one over the snare, one over the drummers shoulder' technique. A small room with...
I played through an old Princeton at an open blues jam a while back. Had a great tone for blues guitar already dialed in so I didn't tweak any knobs or anything. Sounded good with my '73 strat. I would assume it's a good match for the epi with p-90's too. I don't know how many watts the one...
I have owned both the Flextone 2x12 & the Flextone II 1x12. I have been very happy with them. Although they dont have quite the same presence as a nice tube amp at high levels, they more than do the job and make up for it tenfold in versatility. I usually mic mine for live gigs. Best thing...
Those of you who are running professional studios out there: Do you do most of your recording during normal 9-5 business hours or is it mostly evening & weekend work?
