so i lubed everything and somehow it started running too slow. i noticed the rubber wheel b/t the capstan and the flywheel was very slick...i sanded it a little and now everything is up to speed. problem solved.

anyone ???

yep...tied up in other business now..on hiatus from the 3440 for now. i looked inside and everything looks pretty clean around the pulleys. in one belt i notice a VERY slight kinked spot. and then there's the one pulley assembly under the heads that i can't see.

my sony reel to reel is playing a little fast. it's a tc388. i've read about the 50hz and the 60hz settings. if that's the problem how do i change it from one to the other? or might this just be old belts?

i'm not sure where the u-shaped jumpers are. there are some of those on my reel to reel but not on the back of the marantz? are they inside the case?

i just bought a 2220b from a friend. he said it probably needs new capacitors. when i turn it on it clicks and then comes on like normal. a minute or so later it clicks again the fires a loud pop through the speakers...then it continues to repeat the clicks. is he right about the...

i've got the same problem with the same unit. my 4th channel sounds like reverb and crickets.

the 4400... the power on switch doesn't work. it comes on when you put tape on...engaged by the tape guide with the switch. so stuck in the on position. though..i don't have time to work on this one just yet.

are they standard sizes and easily replacable? or brand specific?

thanks for the replies... i just found a scott receiver and some klh speakers at goodwill for $10. seems to be all i need for now. what is the function of the rubber around the woofer cone. these are deterierated, but sound fine to me.

hey Rolf...i'm back...sorry i got sidetracked for a couple months. i found a working little akai 4400 at auction for $5 the other day...i may need some advice repairing the power switch on it though. i've got an off topic question...i've been using headphones since i got the reel to reel...

got stuck out of town and now i'm back trying to make the extended tax deadline. i'll get back in a couple days.

no change after messing with the switch. i noticed that i barely hear anything on 4 in play mode. in sync mode is where it's all reverb and overblown hiss. very loud.

i didn't notice anything different with the meter. when i'm recording in sync the meters aren't really giving a reading. i guess that's how it's supposed to be? i'll go mess around with the buttons.

i'm using headphones. don't have speakers yet. hiss is only on ch. 4. other 3 are recording great
