CEP: Understanding the 'Bus' mixer vs. the channel we/dry

Thanks for the reply. I can be a little slow on the uptake when trying to digest such information, so I think I'll need to read that a few times to fully understand. It does seem like Cool Edit handles this differently than other audio programs. I was asking a friend, who is an experienced...

CEP: Understanding the 'Bus' mixer vs. the channel we/dry

Hello all ... I've always been a little confused about the best way to control your effects levels (l'll use reverb as an example) when using a Bus in Cool Edit Pro. I know how to assign a group of tracks to a 'bus', but the way I see it, there are 3 areas to adjust the reverb/effect level...

BR-8 Queastion about coverting files from Wav to BR8

Katy ... this may/may not help you ... but it just might be worth a try. Assuming you have both a computer and an extra zip disc ... try copying all of the contents of the disk to another disk that has been initialized. And then try to write to that disk. I do this all the time ... back-n-forth...

    BR1600: Countoff?

auto punch-in I may be misunderstaning the original question, but one of things that i find so useful about these recorders (BR8, BR1180, and the 1600), is that they are very easy to use ... for instance, the auto punch in/out feature is rather simple, and if I understand the question...

Anyone Synced an Adrenalinn I/II to their BR8 or BR1600?

Thanks for the reply Hey, thanks for the reply Steve. I think that more or less answers my question. The Adrenalinn II is a beat-synced preamp/amp-modeler/effects unit. The idea is that the delay(s) and/or tremelo is synced with the internal drum machine (oh yeah, it's a drum machine too!), so...

Anyone Synced an Adrenalinn I/II to their BR8 or BR1600?

Hello folks ... just wondering if anyone has synced (via midi) a/their Adrenalinn I or II to their BR8 or BR1600. As most/some of you know, the Adrenalinn units are beat/midi synched to the internal drum machine, so with that in mind, I was wondering if anyone has to sync it with their DAW/Boss...

Is the original BR-8 really that bad?

Au contraire, mon fraire!! Au contraire, mon fraire!! The BR8 is a decent 8-track recorder. One could do much worse. I've made many a decent recording on my BR8, and am quite fond of it. I have friends with ProTools HD systems that do not yield much better recordings than what I get on the BR8...

New (opened box) BR1180 For Sale

Hello folks .... I have a BR1180 that I purchased about a year ago that I've never used. I have a BR8, and purchased the 1180 with hopes of running them in tandem via midi and the digital outs. I came to learn that it was not possible because the midi jacks are only outs. A lesson learned...

did a bad punch-in, can i fix with a crossfade?

hello cool editors of the world. a query if i may . . . i tracked a stereo piano track, and needed to punch-in on one section. i'm usually pretty good with manual punch-ins, but this time i happened to cut off a 'small piece' of the audio from the previous recorded track just before the needed...

    Recording upright piano

Thanks much for the responses. I don't consider myself an engineer, but feel that I've done a decent job with acoustic guitars and vocals relying on the most important thing . . . my ears! So I'll probably be fine. I've just read so much about piano being difficult to record, so I thought I'd...

    Recording upright piano

Hello . . . just a query on recording piano . . . I will be recording some piano tracks this weekend. This will be my first attempt at recording piano, which I've heard is somewhat difficult to record. I have a small but decent selection of mics, and will be interested in trying my Rode NT4...

using the bus to apply fx to more than one track (real time)

Thanks for the confirmation Tukkis. I've gradually started using Cool Edit more and more. It is such a great audio tool. Perhaps I should post this question as a separate post, but I am curious if there is a difference in the sound of the track when applying (saving) the effect to the track...

    Mp3 Encoding Homework!!!

dBpowerAMP . . . I use that also, or sometimes I use the MMJB's built-in encoder. Some may scoff at MMJB, but I have no problems with it . . . it's pretty fast too. I'm suprised I didn't notice the 'artifacts' you mentioned in the mp3's encoded with CE Pro. Yes, this is the same exact sound I am...

    Mp3 Encoding Homework!!!

Chris . . . I'm curious . . . what is it about the CE encoding that you unhappy with? I also like this ability, and have been using it recently. I am not hearing any obvious problems like I did with say EZ CD creators encoding . . . which introduced some strange artifacts into the file that were...

using the bus to apply fx to more than one track (real time)

hello good people. i was wondering if someone might be inclined to further explain/clarify how to use the 'bus' to apply an effect to multiple tracks. do i understand correctly that one would hit the 'out1' button / choose 'new bus' / go to the properties of that bus and select (add) an effect...

    volume envelope(s)

ahhhhhh, so your not actually applying a +6db amplitude to the track, but simply raising the track volume +6db? thanks, peeder

    volume envelope(s)

chris . . . i had a .wav file at work to try your suggestion. perhaps i am missing something, but after amplifying the file 6db, and then taking the volume envelope down to the center (-6db), i still found that i could not raise the volume above 0db. hmmmm?? peeder
