Jazz- "You must take the A-train" - mixing/mastering suggestions

I agree with whoever said to bring the bass up...it disappears. The sax player rocks. In fact, musically, the whole thing rocks. Good spacing of the different instruments in the soundstage, but having the sax full left and the piano full right is almost distracting... Great stuff!

    A new one!

A couple of months ago I posted a tune called "Dennys" by a band that was in my studio at the time. We've been recording ever since then, and they want to do a full-length CD. I've got several songs (in MY mind) ready to go, but want some feedback on the mixes. This one's called "Tell Me"...let...

    $200 to spend on mic(s)

I haven't stripped a 012 head thread yet...mine seem to be pretty well machined. I DO hate their shockmounts (and their clips), because the damn things WILL NOT thread onto my mic stands well. I have to wrap the threads on the stands in plumber's Teflon tape to get the mounts to screw on well...

    $200 to spend on mic(s)

DJL- Is there much (or ANY) benefit in your mind to owning a pair of 012's AND a pair of 603's? I love my 012's, and spent quite a bit of time at GC trying to get two that were pretty close (they didn't have colored dots on the boxes :-) ). I feel like the two I have are damn near...

    $200 to spend on mic(s)

IF you want an honest opinion, I'd say call a Guitar Center and get 2 MK012's for $100. You may not feel like screwing around with them, but for $100 you absolutely can't beat a pair of 012's. Take $79 of the other $100 and buy a SP B1. For $179 you've got 3 very passable mics that you won't...

    Crappy mics . . .

Likewise. As long as everyone on the board focuses on the craft, and not on taking shots at people or companies, this place is pretty good.

    Crappy mics . . .

Actually, Marik and others have TWO threads going that I'm watching closely. The 012 mod could be very cool, and I just got an ECM8000. I don't know enough about mods to post in EITHER thread, but you can bet that I'm taking notes. That's the kind of stuff I wait for on this board. Hell, I'm...

    Crappy mics . . .

This is like a game of pool, DJL. Only 2 players at a time. You can put your quarters on the table though...you'd get the winner... :D

    What is a rack exactly?

I'm damn proud to say that the above picture is my avatar on several forums. I know quality when I see it. And THEM is some quality rack gear. And that's just another reason why I'm a quality rack gear slut.

B1 or 603 for acoust AND voc?

SDC's like the 603 are not generally known for their vocal quality. You're going to have a compromise either way, but based on the comments of others about the B1's quality on acoustic instruments, I'd say that it would be the weapon of choice. It may not sound QUITE as good as the 603 on the...

    shure sm 58s dented tops

I gotta agree with DJL on this one, too...(take a deep breath, everyone) I had about $3000 in live sound stuff stolen out of a truck about 2 years ago. Amazingly enough, about 4 months later, a bunch of identical gear started showing up, piece by piece, at the local Music-Go-Round and in the...

SE2200 vs SP B1 please don't hurt me

Amen. "It ain't braggin' if you can back it up!" And when it comes to customer service, Alan has backed it up. My only issue with my C1 was a shockmount band breaking. I called PMI to order a new one...it showed up via Priority Mail, no charge. And there was a spare in there, as well. Compare...
