Crappy mics . . .

I think we both took some below-the-belt jabs. From the looks of things, I suppose both Alan and I could stand some Asian hookers or something to lighten our moods a little. But I'm cool with it -- I'll take what I dish out.

Say, thanks for the vote of confidence, Oz. My better work has yet to make it up -- either because it hasn't been released yet, won't be released at all, or hasn't been copywritten, etc. etc. Most of the Indie artists can't really sing, and that's just one of those things you have to understand about the genre, I guess. If you want to hear a chick with some serious pipes, check out song #2: http://www.nowhereradio.com/artists/album.php?aid=1298&alid=532 I'm in the process of trying to assemble some people to collaborate with her, because she's just too much of a talent to lie dormant.

I have a couple other good examples, though, if you look under the "Rock" section of the web site. http://www.nowhereradio.com/artists/album.php?aid=1298&alid=357 I Wanna' Know and Thirteen Colonies have both been on some college and local radio pretty regularly -- one of the bands recently got a record deal.

My biggest frustration is that 99% of the time, I don't get to mix my way at all. Most Indie artists want you working for them if you know what I mean. And a lot of them don't get it.

Luckily, every now you get a chance to work with an artist or a band that makes it all worthwhile for you. Those are really the times you live and hope for, and the rest of the time you just do the best with what's given to you.

The artists believe they know everything. They generally know everything about bad sound. People complain about the shallowness of music execs and how they are to blame for the bad state of music. Artists are just as equally to blame. I was working with an indie band. They had loads of talent but their egos made them just another indie band. I will only work with solo artists anymore. I will never work with another band.

Actually, Marik and others have TWO threads going that I'm watching closely. The 012 mod could be very cool, and I just got an ECM8000. I don't know enough about mods to post in EITHER thread, but you can bet that I'm taking notes. That's the kind of stuff I wait for on this board.

Well, I can feel the love here, but that sidesteps the fact that Chessrock needs help here, and nobody's really giving it to him. The problem is that the *really* crappy mics usually aren't priced high enough to meet Chessrock's criteria. Chess, I hate to say it, but you need to move to Australia or The U.K., where those cruddy mics are priced into your intelligently chosen price range.
