    tom tuning...

I know this has probably been discussed before, but I want to put this in my exact words. I CAN'T get my toms to stop sounding like tympanies. It's kind of upsetting. I'm following the DTB to try to tune them but I can't make any headway.

    Alex Rodriguez from Saosin...

    Alex Rodriguez from Saosin...

Thanks.. I was watching some vidoes last night it looks like he uses remo coated heads on his toms. It's hard to tell which ones though. It looks almost like hes using emperor X heads (with the black dot in the middle inside) Also from what you just sent me it looks like hes using a coated head...

    Alex Rodriguez from Saosin...

I was wondering if anyone knows of any pics of his setup as far as his kit or what he uses for recording. Also does anyone know if he has any dvds or anything? I know he is still not that known but I love everything about the way he plays and the way his kit sounds. I'm pretty sure he uses Truth...

P.S. I got a 7-piece pacific CX Maple for 450 used with cymbals. (that's 5 toms, snare, and kick, and the cymbals are paiste 802 hats and 10" splash, 16" zildjian ZBT, and 22" sabian dry ride)

    Drum census

When I first started at this whole recording thing, I used V-drums all the way. I thought it was the cats ass untill one day I sat down and compared my recording to more professional ones. I realized that it sucked. Ever since, I have bought tons of gear, which I spent a LOT of college money on...

    Stupid Question

I find that it is a lot easier to use a multi-input recorder. Say like, presonus makes an 8-input multitrack that is firewire interface to the computer. You can record all 8 at once, and it comes with Cubase LE which is some of the easiest mixing software I have ever used. The package deal new...

    Pearl Firecracker

I got the 12" wood version. I played the demo model at the store they had it tuned really high and I liked the way it sounded, so I got it. I'm using it as a primary right now cuz I really like the tone better than the stock PDP one I have. Plus I need new heads and snares for my PDP... anyway...

    Pearl Firecracker

I bought a new snare. It's a Pearl Firecracker. It's cheap, and I like it. I bought remo heads for it too but I haven't had a chance to really change them or tune the thing right yet. Anyway, I just wanted to tell all you guys that. Maybe you can give me some opinions on it, if anyone owns it or...

I just wanted to let you guys know...

You are all amazing in here. I bought a pair of MXL 603s because of you guys and they sound awesome! Also on top of that.. for the less than year I've been here I have learned SO much about recording and equipment and believe it or not I've been playing drums for almost 8 years now and I FINALLY...

"fixing" a "singer" in the mix?

hahaha this is the deal. I mixed some of it down and it doesn't sound too bad so I'm going to make a copy minus vocals just for the vocalist so he can practice and then a copy with everything for the rest of the guys to listen to. I figure, a little bit of reverb (and when I say a little I mean...

"fixing" a "singer" in the mix?

hahaha I should but if you think about it the more time they want to dick around with it 'fixing' stuff, the more I get paid, right? ;)

"fixing" a "singer" in the mix?

Thanks! He said he thinks he can do better on it and this weekend he might try to redo some stuff.. only problem is the guitarist is giving me a deadline (monday) and we've been working a long long time on this I just want to get it done. I guess I will see what I can fix and what he needs to...

"fixing" a "singer" in the mix?

haha I know the general rule of recording is to track it right... well.. I'm recording this band and thier vocalist is kind of, well..... eh. I'm thinking about trying to use some kind of distortion plug in on his voice and a toutch of reverb but I don't know what else I might be able to do. If...

    What do you guys think?

word Phil. It's pretty bad. It's completely broke all the way through the bottom. You know how vista lites have that weak spot where they bonded the shell in the factory? It went all the way across. My dad tried to fix it one time I guess he managed to get ahold of a router and took off a lot of...

    What do you guys think?

haha well my dad's got a couple kits. he has roland v-drums, that peavey (which is one of the nicest kits i've ever seen), and an origional 70's ludwig vista lite that he usually lets me play cuz the bass drum is cracked and it's kind of tore up from gigging. On top of that I have my Pacific kit...

    What do you guys think?

yea I know how it is playing on other people's kits. Sometimes I come across guys that actually have thier kit set up really well and I can play better on thiers than mine lol. As far as tuning my dads drums I'm not going to do it. It really is like someone coming in my room and cleaning it or...
