What does THIS button do?
I was wondering if anyone knows of any pics of his setup as far as his kit or what he uses for recording. Also does anyone know if he has any dvds or anything? I know he is still not that known but I love everything about the way he plays and the way his kit sounds. I'm pretty sure he uses Truth Custom drums but I'm not 100% on that. Also if anyone can tell me how to get my toms to sound like his do in thier recordings I would appreciate it. Thanks guys. :D

Thanks.. I was watching some vidoes last night it looks like he uses remo coated heads on his toms. It's hard to tell which ones though. It looks almost like hes using emperor X heads (with the black dot in the middle inside)
Also from what you just sent me it looks like hes using a coated head on the beater side of the kick.. what do you guys think?

there's also a solid chance that's not what he used in the studio

True.. I read somewhere that Slayers drum tech played in the studio for them on thier first CD.

i dont know. a few buddies are quite into them, while i quite think they suck

for the record, in case anyone was wondering: Alex has two Truth Custom kits, one is 6-ply maple with 45* bearing edges, the other is acrylic, probably the same standard 45* bearing edges. He uses Remo coated Emporers for batter side, and Ambassadors for the resonant side. Also he uses Powerstroke III for both sides of the kick. I can't find anything about what kind of heads are on the snare, but I assume they are standard coated Remo Emporer on the top and a hazy on the bottom.. His snare is 30-ply with custom X-shaped vents.

Thanks.

over years of touring i've heard a lot of kits, and generally it's the player (and as they get better, the tech) that make the kit sound the way it does.

the best kits ive heard, with little to no effort in making them sound better than finding the right heads for the player are

C&C custom drums. they're really friendly over there...will help you out on pricing. and they sound flat out great. they have a lot of good artists too.

as long as you dont take Brian Lane from Brand New's kit into consideration.

i dont know why that guys kit always sounds like shit to me

Thanks dude.. those are sweet too! There's wayyy more customization on it for sure. Plus thier finishes are amazing. I can see why you like those better than TCD. ALso you were mentioning artist's sounds. One of thier endorsees is Andrew Cook from The Receiving End of Sirens. His kit sounds amazing as well!

Honestly it's going to be a few years before I buy a new kit. I want to make sure that I research as many options as I can so I can get something nice heh.

my drummer has a full C&C custom kit

there's a picture of a matte black kit..says it's derek grants, my drummer ordered the same kit, same day, and they fucked up and sent his with his custom Alkaline Trio kick drum head...he still has it

i think it's 24 kick, 16 and 13 toms...black hardware

he also got a custom snare a few months back, and it's a thing of beauty.

they took the shell and covered it in a sort of epoxy.
then they set it on fire.
let it burn a minute, and put it out.
laquered it up, drilled holes, and put onthe hardware

hints of wood and burning showing through, looks amazing
