Preamp to go with studio poweramp and monitors

If you have passive monitors, you need an amplifier to give them power. The other option is to buy a pair of powered monitors that have their amplifiers built in. The advantage is that the amplifier is matched to the speaker with the right amount of power, and it's one less piece of gear...

    Used mic pre

The DMP3 is quite a deal for $199 new. You said your budget is tight.....I'd say that is a no brainer. It's two channels too, and that always makes it much more useful than a single channel.

    Help choosing DI

I deleted my post because I didn't want you to look at too many direct boxes and get a case of "too many options". I have some experience playing through the SansAmp Acoustic DI, because a friend of mine uses it for his acoustic/electric Taylor 714 and it sounds great. I don't know much...

    Confused, sound modules

Yes. With a MIDI patchbay you can easily control a lot of tone modules, computers, controllers, effects proccessors, or any device that uses MIDI. Good ones usually have 8 IN and 8 OUT or THRU. M-Audio makes a good one for $300, the MIDISport 8X8. I bought a used 8-channel Yamaha MJC8...

    Confused, sound modules

Yes. A module has sounds in it. Your controller can access those sounds. If you run a MIDI cable from your controller's MIDI OUT, to the Planet Phatt's MIDI IN, you will be able to access and play the Planet Phatt's sounds. Hope that makes sense.

Do Channels Matter on a MIC PRE?

If I was stating out today with $500-600 for a preamp- I would consider the M-Audio DMP3 for $200 or the Grace 101 for $550. Also, there is a store on Ebay that is selling new Presonus MP20's in the box with one-year warranty for around $350 or less. That is a "detailed and forward"...

    Presonus MP20 issues

You might try engaging the -20 dB pads. You probably shouldn't have to do that unless you are miking a loud source, not like fingerstyle guitar  Give it a try. I use the MLX603/MP20 for acoustic guitars. Great sound IMHO.

    Drum Machines...you're favorites?

I write and sequence with a Yamaha RX5 drum machine. I payed $1200 for it when it first came out, now you see them on Ebay for $80  It's got some good quality unique sounds, like the congas and the hi-hats. The best thing is that it has 12 individual outs, so it is easy to record...

    Oktava MC012 vs Shure SM57

Both your SM58 and MK219 are excellent on electric guitar cabinets. For the piano and acoustic guitar the MC012 would be the better choice. Small diaphram condensers are good at picking up the high frequency details of an acoustic guitar and they sound more "open" than a SM-57/58.

    Bass Box/Peddle for Recording Advice

The SansAmp Bass Driver is a good cheap device that simulates a miked bass amp sound. $180. It's overdrive it quite convincing and it's easy to use. Johnson J-Station $150. Never used it (although I'm thinking of buying one soon). It looks like it has about 5 bass models and many...

    recording the bass direct

I would buy something specifically voiced for bass, such as the Sansamp Bass Driver DI for $169. at www.8thstreet.com I can name dozens of big time professional bassists who use SansAmp, Bass POD, Aguilar and Demeter direct boxes......I haven't read about one pro using a Behringer. I'm...

    Audio-Technica 4033

The 4033 is still available, but the price increased to about $400. I doubt it will be discontinued, it's too big a seller. The CL might refer to the shockmount, I'm not really sure.
