Wow, the manual doesn't say a word about it having to be the CR300. OK for me because that's what I have. Not OK for anyone who has something else. It should have been specific about something like that.
Did you check out the instructions on pages 82-85 on saving & loading data using the S/PDIF connections? Fostex info on the CR300 definitely says that it'll do data backup from the VF-16. I don't have anything over 2 tracks yet in my VF-16, so I can't experiment with it yet.
I have both the VF-16 and the CR300. They're both really new and I don't have a whole lot of experience with them yet. I was going to get the Tascam CD-RW700, which is also a great unit, when the salesman steered me toward the CR300. Basically the difference is just in the inputs and outputs...
I'm looking for a great quality condenser mic to record acoustic guitar, celtic harp, autoharp, bamboo flute, etc. I have an AKG C3000, but the C3000B is suppose to be noticable better. If I'm going to spend money on another mic, should I just go with the AT 4033, since it's about the same price??
Magicman gave some good advice - get yourself a Fostex CR300. I got one from Sweetwater for a bit over $800. It's a professional CDR, so there's no SCMS unless you tell it to program a CD w/ SCMS. It's got all kinds of inputs & outputs - anything you'd ever need. I send a direct stereo optical...
Outputs on back of unit: AUX send 1 & 2 on a 1/4" TRS jack. Stereo out is 2 RCA jacks @ -10dBV. MIDI in & out. Digital in & out is 2 S/PDIF optical connectors (can also do ADAT optical signals). 1/4" Footswitch jack for Punch in/out. SCSI connector, half pitch D-sub, 50-pin female. On the top of...
Twist - just a bit more about the AUX sends. It's actually very versatile. One button push and you can see on the display a picture of all 16 tracks with how much signal is being sent to the AUX1 from each track. One more button push and you see the same thing for AUX2. Ditto for both internal...
Twist - yes, 2 AUX sends but no AUX returns. That just means you use the mixer inputs for your AUX returns. That could be a problem for someone who records many instruments at one time and still wants AUX returns, but no problem for me. I'll be rarely using external effects since there's...
And I guess that's why in Direct Mode the INPUT SEL has to be set to Track instead of Input. Track is feeding you the signal AFTER the Hard Drive, but Input is bypassing the Hard Drive and just going to Monitor or Headphones. You can listen to Input signals in Direct Mode but not Record them...
Still struggling with the manual, but decided to start experimenting. I plugged in a mic and started recording in Direct Mode. I just pushed faders up & down while explaining into the mic what I was doing. Then played it back. I found out that in Direct mode the faders have NOTHING to do with...
I want to keep my new VF-16 clean and dust-free. What can I cover it with? I figured someone made covers for mixers, and desktop equipment in general, but I can't find any in the catalogs.
In case this helps anybody... that "TRS to a Y cord" is called an INSERT CABLE. It's got a TRS stereo jack on one end, but goes into 2 mono jacks. They're used on mixers that usually have INSERT jacks for each channel. The signal from that channel is send out the insert cable, into an effects...
Hi Y'all, I've been following the VF-16 stuff in this Forum for awhile. Well, I just got my VF-16 yesterday! WOW, I just sat and stared at it for awhile. I've been planning to buy digital multitrack for years. Personally, I'm not going to complain too much about the corners Fostex cut in this...
Yes, I've got a couple of them. They're so cool. I keep one in the little accessory compartment in my Strat case. It's great for practicing, or whatever, and you don't want to have to stay inside with your amp. I take mine out and sit on the front porch swing and play. They sound great...
I'll be recording CD's of some old stuff on Cassettes, one song at a time. Then maybe compilation stuff from CD - one song at a time. Eventually, my own songs from my new VF-16 multitrack (which I should have in a week). Looking thru the manual, the track number thing is the only thing that I...
Well, I just got myself a POD Pro a few weeks ago, and it's very well made and would surely stand up to touring as well as any other rack mounted units. I've been reading alot about POD and other simulators for years. The consensus seems to be that POD is BEST for direct recording. It can also...
I'm new to this CDR stuff. I've read in the manual about adding track numbers, automatically or manually. But I'm not real clear on the best way to add them if I'm only recording one song at a time on the CDR. The manual says a track number can be added after the unit has been recording for 4...
Thanks for the info, Magicman. I figured it was a good choice. I was going to get the Tascam CD-RW700 but the salesman steered me toward the CR300, and he was right since the CR300 has more professional type connectors and is designed to backup Fostex multitracks. Now, if I just had the next...
Anyone have one of these? It looks like a great unit. I just ordered one along with a VF-16 Multitrack. I was especially impressed with it's ability to not just record sound, but also data back-up from Fostex multitracks. That'll sure come in handy with the VF-16. Just looking for more info.....
