    Optical/Coaxial converter with AP2496

It was the hardware settings, thanks. BTW, 75ohm "digital" cable IS coax. We were using 75 ohm coax for video long before the marketing geniuses decided to throw some fancy gold connectors on the ends and sell it for $40 per 3ft as "digital" cables.

    iZoTope Ozone 3 Released

I understand to only do it as a last step, I was trying to ask what the point is in using a dither plug is at all, when the bit depth is going to be detirmined by how you export the file.

    iZoTope Ozone 3 Released

I think I need to learn more about dither. For example, in an app like sonar, if you stick the IDR on a track(or bus) so what? When you go to export the project, it's still going to ask you what to save the project as(16bit, 24bit), right? So what good is it doing?

    Optical/Coaxial converter with AP2496

Well the converter is a little radio shack job. This is the first time I've used it. I'll double check the coax. I have another one I know is good. Thanks for the ideas.

    Optical/Coaxial converter with AP2496

I'm on a different computer right now, but If I recall, the external clock options are greyed out until a valid signal is detected.

    Optical/Coaxial converter with AP2496

I've got a Boss BR-8 that I use sometimes for a way to record guitars direct . The BR-8 has an Optical digital out, which I've connected to a converter box to allow me to hook into the SPDIF input of my Audiophile 2496. I can't get any audio into the PC this way. I know the optical out works...

    Reverb amounts for the mix

Reverb is something that has to be applied to taste on individual tracks. If you had the exact same reverb on the Kick drum and bass guitar as you had on the lead vocal, the low end of your mix would get washed out and muddy pretty darn quick. Of course, there are exceptions to just about any...

    hit potential

Re: ... Somehow, that's the most annoying thing I've read in quite some time. Self confidence is good, but if you think you've got something on the 60 billion other guys trying to get on...... Oh hell what am I saying? You're gonna be a STAR!!!!!!!!!

    Stepping outside the Genre

Hey. I don't really come around the Hip Hop forum much, so I don't know if what I'm asking is apropriate or not. Basically, I do mostly hard rock type stuff. I'm getting a bit bored and wanted to do something different (for me at least). I'm working on a new song, no vocals as of yet. I'm...

Everything's Just Fine (first ever recording)

Well. I suppose it beats a lot of first time stuff I've heard. I liked the verse. It reminded me of something from the 80s somehow. The Chorus. To be honest, I really disliked it. It just didn't make me want to listen any more. I'd like to hear your next effort, though. Keep it up.

What program are yall use to convert audio file formats?

I use Goldwave. But I've been curious, is there a way to gauge the accuracy of one app's conversion of a given file vs. another? Say I want to compare the conversion done by Goldwave to the conversion done by , say, SCMPX. I guess I'm most concerned about sample rate conversion. Is it just a...

    Calling All SOUND ENGINEERS!!!!

What cracks me up is how Jskillz also has threads going begging for free "shitty soundcards" mics and pres. And here he wants free mastering. I'm just curious as to how he managed to create a mix worth mastering,on a setup which would be IMPROVED by obtaining a free shitty soundcard and...

Is it worth $80 for the Sonar 2.2 XL Plugs

Agreed. Timeworks EQ I love. It's my favorite EQ. It's got two different interfaces which are both handy. Just that is worth the money to me.

It's not really some big mind blasting difference. Remember, I wasn't even sure if it was my mind playing tricks or not.

    resolve...... weakening... must.....

Actually, that's the only area I've got him beat. He's got the gear and software (and mad cash) but zero skills. That's why I hate the bastard. ( I don't really hate him)

    resolve...... weakening... must.....

...buy Sonar 3. I had a chance to try it out the other day. One of my too-rich-for-their-own-good buddies got it. I took a couple of my 2xl projects over and fooled around a bit. I think this may have been mentioned in an earlier thread, but does Sonar 3 just plain ass SOUND BETTER? At first...

    audio to MIDI?

Plus with Drumagog you can use velocity sensitive multi-samples for added realism. However, if you used the extract feature in sonar, you could draw in or erase hits wherever you wanted them in the midi track, maybe a little quicker than editing the audio in a snare track. (plus no additional cost)

Anyone using ASIO w soundblaster Audigy sonar 3

Ah, Bill, don't ditch the AP2496. (but if you do, I might be able to justify buying another one.) I'd hate to live in a world where a Creative card was better at anything besides Sucking. On an unrelated note, I found the backup of our tune last night, with everything except a dry vocal from...
