Amazed (cover of an Offspring tune)

The bass isn't that bad. It could be backed off a little. The vocals need to come up alot I think. The rhytym guitars are a little tingy too. Good stuff though, I never hear Offspring covers.

Good God It Took Too Long To Get A Draft Of This Together!!

I could really use some constructive criticism on this tune. I'd been sitting on this and fiddling with it for some time, but have finally cobbled a 1st draft mix together. It's an acoustic-esque song, but fast enough that it's a little different. All comments are welcome, I'd really like to...

    Walking Douglas County

I'm thinking I want to redo the solo at the end of this song. It hasn't sounded right to me. Anyone agree?

    Walking Douglas County

Hey thanks for the heads up on the bass. I purposely put it up front to try and highlight the country bass quality to it, so it's interesting to hear comments about the bass. I'm gonna tick it back next cut and see how it plays. I was in Auburn. Birmingham now. But War Eagle as always. I...

    Acoustic/Rock song. Harshness encouraged.

I agree, what a nice song. The only thing I would recommend is trying to "fill out" some of the range in the tracks. For example, the guitar, piano and vocals sound tingy to me. Maybe some equilizer, or chorus or slight reverb on a couple of the tracks?

    Walking Douglas County

It's a been a long while since I visited the mixing clinic. Good to be back: here's something I've been working on recently, http://www.songramp.com/mod/mps/srplayer.php?type=hipub&trackid=72667 Appreciate any advice, Andrew

    darker acoustic song

Kind of a cool, chill song. Vocals sound great as do the drums. The main acoustic is played very well, but perhaps there is an effect you can add to make it sound a slightly better. If you listen closely it sounds at brief times like a living room.

Bloodshot Eyes (Does this song title fit?)

lyrics Here's the lyrics to help with the title. You don't want anyone else You're happy by yourself And you can tell yourself Anything you want to hear My dear You walk at night alone You're burdened by this stone And that mirror just don't lie Hoping people ignore Bags under those bloodshot...

Bloodshot Eyes (Does this song title fit?)

Toki-Thanks as always for your comments. I tried to make the low end strong, but I probably got carried away with it. And if by more of these you mean unclear mixes that lack direction then yes I'm rollin in em. Thanks again though. Massive Master - I think I know what you mean by "air" in...

Bloodshot Eyes (Does this song title fit?)

Hey y'all. First I just wanted to thank everybody for previous comments on some of my other songs. I think this whole process has helped me get better at recording. But I still suck. Hopefully that'll change too. Here's a song I mixed down a couple months back and it's just sat. I'm...

    Sappy love song...forgive me

Ouch. Well that confirms my belief that my songs would eventually kill someone. I really hope you didn't hang yourself, but thanks for your critique. I know exactly the parts you're refering too as out of tune. I plan to retrack those. I'll bump the mandolin part up some too. I mixed it...

    Sappy love song...forgive me

Jotosuds - I have a very simple set up. I record my acoustic guiatars with a MXL 1000 condensor mic. I ram it right up to the body of my guitar below the soundhole. Then I record the vocals with either a shure 58 or some other crappy shures or the condensor. In this case I used the 58. I...

    Sappy love song...forgive me

Dude - Thanks. I get paranoid about my lyrics oftentimes. Dirtythermos - I'll try bumping those vox up a tad. Funny, nobody here ever tells you to turn them down. I think your also right that the solo is panned too hard. Should've known that. I haven't found the right place for that solo...

    Sappy love song...forgive me

Thank you Jotosuds. I wouldn't call it pro quality, but I appreciate your words of encouragement. Thanks again. Andrew.

    Sappy love song...forgive me

I know, I know, but everybody's got a couple. Here's the 1st mix of a song called "Indian Summer". I'm particularily interested in whether I pulled the vocals off. I don't think I did, but I 'll let y'all be the judge of that. Thanks a bunch. Andrew. http://songramp.com/andrewrypel

Speak Up! What genre is this???

I would classify it as jazz/alternative. Similar artists Diana Krall, Bjork etc. In terms of the mix, I think there may be some tempo issues to iron out. It seems like complicated rythyms or at least uncommon ones. I kinda liked the sound though, ecletic.

    The song's name is "Outloud"

Flash - Thanks for the listen and the advice. I guess I'll try out an eq cut and then make a decision. Toki - Thanks again for the collab. Let me know if you want the wave file to work on more. CanopuS - I recorded the guitars and harp with a MXL 1000 condensor and the vox with a shure sm...

    The song's name is "Outloud"

Thank you for the listen and the suggestions. I think you're right about eq-ing the low out of the guitar. Just the type of little thing that you don't pick up cause you listen to the mix so much you forget it's there. That's why I love the clinic. Andrew.

NEWBIES - studio tips from the school of hard knocks.

Probably some of the most usefull advice I've seen around here in a year. The studio for under 2500 described is pretty much what I built and I'm very happy with the results. One point that I thought was particularly good was the 1 "honey" mic and a bunch of crappy mics. I basically got one...
