I track all acoustic guitar parts via my JoeMeek VC6Q mic pre. It's got a lot of tools to really warm up the sound a lot (lots of headroom, quiet operation, awesome photo-optical compressor and some really tasty EQ options).
I've got a Strat and LP. I've got the following options (or combos) for recording:
1) Straight into my Roland VS-1680 hi-z instrument input. From there I have Roland guitar effects I can insert.
2) My Fender Blues Deluxe tube amp mic'd with an SM57.
3) Direct into my JoeMeek VC6Q mic pre...
I've found that the very lowest bass frequencies can overwhelm the sound of the instrument and even reduce the ability to hear the bass line in the mix. To alleviate the problem, I usually cut (with a shelving curve) at least 6-7 db at around 50 Hz. Then I boost a few dbs at either 400 Hz, 800...
I've got the 1680 and get good bass sounds using the bass inserts. I get even better sounds running my bass through a Joemeek VC6Q preamp/compressor/eq box.
I've been very happy with my AT 4033 which was approx. $350 at Mars Music. They retail for over $700. Sounds great on vocals and acoustic guitar, tambourine.
I've got a digital workstation and I'd like to collaborate with a buddy (actually obtain a 44.1kHz tune and input his WAV or MP2/MP3 file into my workstation to be completed on the workstation). He would be recording a live track and then send me the track to finish up like the Beatles did with...
I've done a lot of recording but have not used MIDI for very long. I recently created a recording from my sequencer to my digital workstation. It was great that everything could go to just a pair of tracks. The only problem I ran into was not being able to separately treat the instruments for...
I use a JOEMEEK VC6Q which is adds a lot of warmth and fatness to the sound. It's made in the U.K. and also has compression and an equalizer. A good preamp which colors the sound in a nice way.
Sorry, the digital connection is only an OUT on the Lexicon, though I still can't get it to input to the VS-1680 correctly. There's probably a digital in that I need to set up somewhere in the MASTER section??
One question further...my Roland VS-1680 has a digital in and digital out (2 separate jacks). My Lexicon effects unit only has one (which is an input and output). How do I use?
Has anyone used the mastering tool kit to great effect? I just wondered if it has settings that would help somewhat of a newbie in mastering?
I'm amazed and sometimes overwhelmed with the # of effects I got with the 1680.
Could you be attenuating the signal somehow and not know it? Often times, mics will require a good boost from a preamp. If you don't need a mixer, buy something like the ART Tube Preamp or other (the ART unit is only about $100).
I love my Fender Blues Deluxe. This amp was eventually replaced by another line. It has a tweed cabinet and the vintage Fender Bassman tone plus an awesome overdrive channel. It sounds great for recording or live use.
I have a Lexicon MPX-100 Digital Effects box that I'd like to use with my VS1680. Both have digital I/O via SP/DIF (digital/optical) jacks. It looks like a typical RCA type jack...will typical RCA plugs work?
Also, do I lose some functionality in connecting my Lexicon this way as opposed to...
