IMO 57 does not get the high mids and high freqs i want, but the e609 does a GREAT job, i got one for 99.99 too. i would say shoot for that, but if you have 300-350 to spend get the MD-421

IMO the ring doesnt sound bad and if you say dampening them enough to get rid of the ring kills the tone then dampen them a little to make the ring slightly less and use that?
