The budget is roughly 200 bucks.

I'm looking at -

Sm57
e609
i5
e906

Any combination of mics as long as it's not too much over my budget ($200)

The styles will verify from very low, fast, detuned metal, to extremely clean loud fender twins.

Any or all of them would do the trick. I actually have all 4 and they are all a bit different but all are very capable of capturing usable guitar tones.

OK If I had to choose 2? E906 and SM57

I have had experience with both the SM57 and the i5. I now own 2 of the i5 mics. Maybe one of these days I'll expand enough to try the others mentioned, but my $0.02 is to go for the i5. Nice sound and has been very versatile, picks up clean stuff really well and doesn't do such a bad job at the overdriven stuff either.

Well, honestly they are all very versatile mics, and will give close to similar results on a guitar cab. The only thing here is that one of the four is much more expensive compared to the others... (still not alot of money, but the others are very similarly priced within about 20 bucks). You really can't go wrong with the 57, but the I5 is becoming more and more commonly accepted today as the same thing the 57 has always been known for.

Well it only depends on which one you prefer personally. I've done a little shootout of the 57 versus the i5 and the opinions were totally mixed. I happened to prefer the 57, but many people disagreed. I think it would be a similar situation with any of those mics.

make sure you consider an ATM650

I have used all that you list for years and the ATM650 is hands down my fav. it's like an i5 and 57 combined. not as scooped as the i5 and not as honky as the 57.

I have the SM57's and the original black face e609's.... I like them both for different things....The 57 has that midrange hump going on.....which a lot of times helps it to sit right in the mix of a song (or better anyway..) the e609 is much smoother/flatter(?) and can tame a nasaly amp/cab.....the 609 isn't as finicky on placement as the 57 is either (That 57 can be a bit tricky to dial in if you're not experienced with it :( )

IMO 57 does not get the high mids and high freqs i want, but the e609 does a GREAT job, i got one for 99.99 too.
i would say shoot for that, but if you have 300-350 to spend get the MD-421

Well I have roughly 200 bucks to mess around with so I could get both.

yep, if you can afford 200 bucks get two of them... I5, 57, e609,,,, should be able to get any two for that money. None of these mics are a waste of money, so even if you decide you like one best on your guitar, you'll find other uses for the other mic.

i own both the i5 and the e906. I started out with i5 and it wasn't performing the way i needed it. It wasn't picking up distorted guitar clean enough. So i bought the e906 instead of the e609, since you had three different pick up patterns, and you could taylor the mic to the amp and player. I love using both in tandem. thei5 farther and the 906 closer. It comes out clean and pristine. If you don't have any of them yet, go get the i5, and use that for a bit, figure out the technique, then go and buy the 906 later, and use them in tandem.

Try a ribbon mic for the cab. Cascade should do the job. The FAT II is $200, the "I" is $150.

Love my SM-58. I use it with my Blackface twin all the time. Good times.

Here's a sample:

what i use... e609 and an audio technica at 2020 condesnor. set up the e609 2 inches at a 30 degree angle at the center of the cone, then about 3-4 feet away i set up the at2020 facing towards the amp about 1 foot above the amp, put them in 2 different channels, and i get a nice, in your face sound. very clean, very precise.
