    Memphis LP Knockoff

I've seen them for about the same price on fleabay and craigslist. If it does what you want it to, that's all that really matters! Good luck.

    Any Keyboard Suggestions!

You might be able to pick up a used DX-7 for around that much if you look hard enough. For beginning, maybe a Yamaha NP30 for about $300.

    Starting a home recording studio

+3 on Tweakz guide. I started with a Teac reel-to-reel recorder many years ago. I upgraded to a Boss BR-864 and mainly use software for tracking, mixing and mastering now.

What would you replace your Matin with ? ?

I'd buy one of the Taylor acoustics. Fine instruments indeed!

Korg AX5B Worth it? I'm not really a bass player...

It's from the Korg Toneworks family and is worth the small amount, IMO.

    Mic'ing Guitar cab

I've had good results from the Senn E-609 for mic'ing amps, but don't drape it over the amp, keep it about 2 inches from the front grille cloth. It seems to sound muddy any closer than that, but at approx 2" away, it gives a great clear, accurate sound comparable to the 421 which costs about 3...

    Boss Br-900 Cd

I use a BR-900CD to record tracks and then do the mixing with software. For me, it's easier to be able to "see" the tracks on a monitor when doing any edits, punch-ins and mixing, etc. ;)

What are some ways to get bands to come in and record?? and pay, too??

My experience has been to have a good "portfolio" of what you can do (so to speak) as far as recording. Include a wide variety of styles and be creative. Try to set goals (both short term and long) and achieve them, document your achievements. Good luck!

real newbie here who can help

The Boss BR recorders are decent stand alone units with some nice features. For home recording I use a BR-900CD, Digidesign M Box Mini 2 w/ProTools. I've heard some very good recordings done on a Macbook. ;)
