    The Fletcher/Munson Effect.

Keep in mind, this time he was correct in stating: At least because of what littledog and Son of Mixerman pointed out. I.e., do most of your mixing at lower leves to avoid ear fatigue and to make sure the mix translates at those levels, but check the mix at about 85dB for accuracy.

Poddy, That will give you definite phasing problems.

Where do you see things going in the next 10 years?

Surround won't make as big of a spash as some think. Too many logistics problems. Mainly in that it doesn't translate to all environments. For example, cars, walkmans, boomboxes, etc. (well, it may translate to car surround systems). Surround does not lend itself to portability and it is...

I could give a rat's ass how they handle. If ya want handling, get a Porsche. I just think they look like a cylon spaceship or something.

    What do we do now?

Alright... alright... NWR's (finally) got another paying member. I've got my own space to post my tunes, but I do have a few on NWR. More importantly, I like the ability to easily listen to other people's songs. I like the fact that there's no registration to listen. I also like...

    T.C. Electronics Finalizer

For what it's worth, I love my Finalizer Plus. Keep in mind, it will not replace professional mastering.

    Doubling guitars

That's a great point. It's hard to polish a turd. Not that the parts are necessarily crappy. However, it sounds like the guitar parts might not compliment each other. The tough part is if you're not the songwriter or the producer. Thus, it would be difficult to tell a band their parts suck...

    Increasing signals without clipping...

Quick peaks in the signal being recorded will cause digital clipping. Thus, the signal must be recorded at a level low enough to keep the peaks from clipping. Limiting reduces the peaks and allows the overal signal level to be increased. Keep in mind to not use excessive limiting which would...

    Increasing signals without clipping...

Compression and limiting helps. Tossing a limiter on during tracking can help avoid transient peaks. Adding compression to tracks helps raise their overall level even more. However, be careful not to squash the life out of your tracks (unless that is what you're going for).

    roland vs880 recording levels

Both responses are helpful. Using compression on a final mix can help increase the overall level of the mix. In particular, the peaks are reduced to allow increasing the level of the whol mix without digital clipping. Multiband compression is often used because it allows different compression...

LOL JR! LocusLarsen, I used "PM" as an acronym for "personal message." And, yeah, I don't remember anything racist either.

Buy a $1000 Guitar, yea right.....

Troll Proof Wow. No sooner did I post my response, but I received the following PM from Shinobi: While I appreciate keeping mudslinging off the board, I found the PM to be quite hypocritical to the complaint regarding sending offensive emails. This dude's definitely a troll.

Troll Anyone notice how he conveniently ignores requests for sound clips or make and models of the alleged guitars?

Joel, Not familiar with most of those places. I've only been in Kenosha for one year and only have been to the Brat Stop and Twisters. I'm originally from Milwaukee and did most of my gigging in the SouthWestern area of WI. Let me know if you're gigging anywhere!
