    suggestions for recording bass direct

Well, maybe I'm cheap and pathetic here...but this is my opinion. To me, the perfect bass sound is one that you don't even notice when you listen to the tune. I mean, the tune would sound naked without it, but it should blend so well that you don't even realize that you're hearing it a lot of...

Old guy thinks 'modern rock not crap' shock!

Well, I'll agree with you that much of today's music isn't really my style, though Soundgarden does rock...but damn that Britney Spears is hot. :)

    Strings slipping/out of tune

Steve, This definitely sounds like a combination of two problems. First: Follow "effedupstrat's" advice about winding the strings properly. If you don't understand what he means, go to a good guitar shop and have them show you how to do it. Winding the strings wrong will cause all sorts of...

    Layla 24 vs. Aark 24

Well I feel like an idiot, guhlenn! I should read more carefully next time. JFogarty, Intel and AMD are CPU manufacturers. Intel makes the Pentium line of chips, and AMD has a competing chip. Guhlenn is saying that the Aark does not support computers with an AMD processor.

    Layla 24 vs. Aark 24

I can only speak for the Aark because it's what I bought. I really dig the sounds I'm getting from it. The mic preamps are really nice. I don't think you can go wrong. Of course the Layla people probably say the same thing!

    Most Over Rated Guitarist

Jeff Beck? What are you, nuts?! Jeff Beck Rocks. I'll agree thought that Clapton is over-rated, and if you listen to/watch any live Led Zeppelin you'll realize that Jimmy Page is tremendously sloppy...but he wrote some great songs...and that's what it's ALL about.

    mix down to computer

Stan, The 60 seconds thing is a limitation of Sound Recorder. The cheapest way that you can do what you want to do, is to download the free version of Pro Tools. You can record to your heart's content that way. I don't personally like it, but it is free. By the way, you wouldn't happed to...

Help me get rid of this f#@$ing distortion?!

Hey all, I've got an Aardvark DirectPro 24/96, and right now I'm using the bundled Samplitude Project 5.5. I'm having major clipping problems that I can't fix. I'll set my trim on the input so that my peak is between -3 and -6, and then I'll lay down a track (guitar). At no point does the...

Direct Pro vs. Delta 66 (or 44) w/ small mackie or..????

I bought the Aardvark DirectPro 24/96. To me, the mic pre's sound better than my mixer (Mackie). Latency? What's that? This thing rocks. Definitely the best purchase of my musical career. Everything is shielded very well. You can get it cheap at http://www.bayviewproaudio.com

Where can I get some good cables & connectors?

I've got this old Portastudio, which suits my minimal needs just fine. I'd like to screw around with making some mp3's for some friends across the country, so I need some help finding good quality audio cables. I just something that can get me from the two RCA jacks on the Tascam to the 1/8"...

    BEST VALUE GUITARS!!!

Any of the Hamer imports...I've got two of 'em and love 'em. Actually, anything that comes from the Samick factory in Korea. They make Epiphones and the Hamers, and they also make a Samick line of guitars. Damn good mass-produced guitars.

    Help me get started?

So the Delta 44/66 have preamps built in? I was checking their web site out, and the specs don't mention anything about this. It does say "signal level" inputs...does this infer preamps?

    Help me get started?

I'm looking into doing some digital recording with my PC. Really, I just want to noodle around a bit for fun. I'm looking at a couple of nice soundcards with breakout boxes, and I'll get a decent Mic for miking my guitar amps. I basically want to figure out what else I'll need. I'm looking...
