    kick drum technique?

well frankly, i have a kit that resonates more than most. a dw satin oil kit...no protective finish, just a stain. if you tune my floor tom in any configuration you can think of...aside from choked so much there is no tone...it will ring out for about 15 seconds. your comment crossed my mind...

    kick drum technique?

in reponse to removing the blanket... being a drummer, i'd very much like to see how you are to tune a kick with no muffling and get a modern kick sound that's deep, tight, and punchy. maybe with an emad if you're lucky, but really...the kick drum just has way too much resonation and overtones...

    Pod Pro vs. Podxt

the xt is a ridiculous improvement over the others. prime example would be the jcm800 model...bass doesn't roll in unless crank the master volume...just like the real amp. the xt carries a lot more of the amps real characteristics than the pro. as far as the regular vs. the pro...tone wise is...

    Kick technique

hit and release staying on the head causes it not to resonate and if you're playing double kick would actually mute the hits of the opposite beats. i dunno, not my cup of tea at all and wouldn't suggest anyone to hit and hold.

avalon 737 vs. groove tubes brick

i've used both fairly extensively and REALLY don't think that the extra price of the avalon is warranted unless you're looking for a full channel strip. strictly talking preamps...i very much prefer the brick on guitars and bass on a really consistant basis. vox are kind of a toss up...depends...

central station vs. hear tech 600mv

has any one had any experience with the hear tech? i've read lots of good stuff about the central station and is defiantely something i'm interested in, but the hear tech looks nice also and is a little easier on the check book. thanks!

    i think i'm missing something

i will take the advise of using the money else where, however i'd still like to know how it works for my own knowledge. am i to assume i take the aes/ebu in and out of the motu and connect it to said apogee unit since there's no optical or spdif on the motu. also...what apogee or any other...

    overheards in the 350-500 range

Hey guys, I was looking for some new OHs and I have a budget of 350-500 in mind. I'm looking a lot at SM81s, but I assume that there's probably some better options. I'm definately looking for a smaller diaphram since I already have a pair of 4050s. I'm looking to get a few more options on...

    i think i'm missing something

i've been reading a lot about ad/da conversions and running apogee, lynx, etc with your setup to improve it. however...if you have a box that already has convertors, aren't you held back by your original box? or when you have an external set of convertors does the digital signal bypass the...

    pro tools mix 24

given the price of an HD setup, do you guys think it'd be worth while to invest in the older hardware up on ebay? it comes out to be 10-20% of the price of a new setup (for example...the old farm cards are going for $200 a piece now). i don't really care about the pro tools software in any...

    Setup question

first...unless i'm wrong, the line inputs on channels 3-8 are on the front and would not bypass the already existing preamp, which is my concern. if i plan on buying more high end preamps, wouldn't they get dumbed down by the firepods? second...let me try and explain the delta1010 senario with...

    Setup question

yes, what i meant was i can use the firepod as my pres and use the 2nd delta 1010 to add more enternal pres. i'm sorry if there was any confusion.

    Setup question

I'm looking to expand my studio a bit. At this point I'm using a presonus firepod and am looking to add new pres and maybe convertors. however, since the firepod can only use two external pres, i've tossed around buying a new setup. i would keep the firepod and use it just as a preamp section...

    Muting Drums

Hey guys, this isn't recording, but I can't think of a better board that would be able to help with this. I need to completely mute my drums and cymbals for a video shoot I'm doing with my band this weekend. I figured out that I can just throw some towels in the drums and that works great, but...

Can a major Logic Pro upgrade be expected from 7 soon?

well logic 7 is a HUGE step from 6 IMO and you should get it regardless. and my understanding of the situation is apple is running the show and emagic is outted. as far as logic 8 coming out soon, i haven't heard any rumblings about it at all.

    Any logic users?

ok, i'm not sure about this whole trouble routing in logic thing. it does it really seemlessly. plug something in and inputs show up. are far as changing system settings, there's nothig to optimize, it's all just there waiting. as far as file sharing between programs...just save the files as...

Frustrated... PLEASE help me choose a mic...

I think it's kinda weird no one has pointed out that the tube pre is not all that hot of a preamp. A better pre would definately help things. I've had a tube pre, and they're pretty terrible. At the very least I'd suggest putting a new tube in it. I did that and it made it thicker on the low...

    Ride Micing

under the cymbal will give a heavier kind of sound usually. on top will give more stick attack and articulation. if i mic under a ride i use a ldc a foot away give or take, and generally use in a mix laid back to fill in the space...not an upfront kind of thing. if i mic on top i use a sdc...

1 overhead gone, can this mix be saved?

you could try and find a plug in that can sample the noise and reduce it to reasonable level or elimanate it all together. waves makes the x series of noise reduction plugs that work well.
