The quest for tone: Overdubbing Guitar+Effects

As an owner of Siamese Dream (brings me back to my high school days), I actually think that though the album is good musically it is actually pretty poorly recorded (a bit thin sounding, almost no bass, harsh highs). Try listening to the album with a good pair ($100+ Grado, Sennheiser, Audio...

Great headphones for pure listening enjoyment?

If there are any left, Grado made a limited edition run of 450 HF-1 headphones last month. They were made specially for the forum members at www.head-fi.org, hence the HF-1. Join the forum and get a pair if you can; production originally was slated for 300, due to excess demand an additional...

Hello, I'm looking for a dynamic mic to add to my collection that will primarily be used for live and studio vocals and occasional micing of guitar or keyboard amps. What I have right now is a Shure SM57 and an Audio Technica AT4047. I've been researching and it seems like the SM7B and the...

Upgrading to 0.10 strings in my Telecaster

Just a quick question- I'm thinking of upgrading the strings in my Tele to 0.10-0.46 gauge strings from the stock 0.09-0.042s. Before I give it a go, would this require any shaving of the nut to get the strings to fit? It is a Japanese 1968 Walnut body remake, if that helps... Thanks, Ron

    Cracked Inlay on Fretboard

Hi, I recently picked up a used 1981 Rickenbacker 4003 bass on eBay, however when it arrived 2 days ago I noticed a crack in the 9th fret inlay (sharktooth shape inlay, for those unfamiliar with the Ricks). I talked to the seller, and he agreed either to refund the bass or give a partial...

    DO quality cables really matter?

http://www.lavacable.com/cable_comparison.htm Highly worth checking out for a brand by brand cable comparison.... in my opinion this guy's reviews are pretty damn accurate. my personal faves are Cobalts for XLR, hi-fi, and speaker cables, and Lava Cables as a great budget option, and actually...

Pickups for Getting Weird Sounds/Textures from a Strat

Confused by the title? Let me clarify a bit. I have a 95 (?) Fender MIM strat that has served me well for the past 8 years, but has fallen along the wayside with the arrival of a Fender Custom Shop strat and a Gibson Les Paul Std. I would still like to use this guitar as somewhat of a project...

Hello, I'm trying to get these specific kinds of guitar sound- any advice on pickups/amps/guitars/effects for obtaining the following guitar sonics. I'd like to keep guitar purchases to a minimum; currently I have a 97 Fender Mexican Std. Strat and an 05 Les Paul Std. I'd like to work with a...

Who is the most underrated guitarist?

I don't really listen to much metal, hard rock, blues, or "jam bands," so this list may have some glaring omissions, but here's my take anyway, throughout the years (in no particular order): CHUCK BERRY: Not really sure if underrated, but doesn't seem to be given the credit he deserves among...

Using Headphone Out for Computer Speakers on Omni Studio

Right now, I have my Klipsch ProMedia 2.1 computer speakers connected to one of 2 Amped Stereo Headphone Outs on My Omni Studio Box. Is the sound quality I am getting out of the speakers in any way reduced or coloured because of this setup? Also, is there any optimal setting for the headphone...
