Hi,

I recently picked up a used 1981 Rickenbacker 4003 bass on eBay, however when it arrived 2 days ago I noticed a crack in the 9th fret inlay (sharktooth shape inlay, for those unfamiliar with the Ricks). I talked to the seller, and he agreed either to refund the bass or give a partial refund.

Any ideas on if it is possible to repair the crack in the inlay, or the effect on its collectable value if I just let it be? Is there a possibilty that the crack can affect the sound or playability later on?

Thanks,

Ron

NO.

As for colectable value, don't worry about it. It's a fucking `81 Rick, it has none. If it was a `60's or early `70's Rick, sure, but not an `80's. Chill out, don't worry about it, and enjoy the guitar. If it gets in the way, take it to a good tech and have it glued down.

Done.

can you post or send me a picture of it. Use your digital camera on macro setting so you can see it up close.

It shouldn't be too difficult to keep it in place. You will always be able to see the little line, but it shouldn't effect playability at all.

Cheers,
Pete
