Aye but the thing is.... I never got the time to record the tune! So you're hearing basically the backing track....
Still.... its nice to know you enjoy it. I'm trying to put together new material for a new album.... kind of inspired by the great works of Elliott Smith. It's really weird...
Haha, I always find it funny to hear you still liking that clip Nik! I'm still not sure it gives a great impression of the potential of the mics.... I think I could have got better, but hey it's nice to know you appreciated it!
Anyway, while I tend to be quite detailed in my setup, that...
I'm intruiged by this mic, I'd love to hear some info about it. The most I ever seem to find is its ability as a replacement for the SM57. Essentially, I'd like a dynamic that I could use for snare (I don't actually have anything that could fit that role at the moment except maybe a SP B1), that...
Meanwhile, I found some threads recently over at studioforums, where I found that searching Rvd1 came up with several results. I think there are the opinions of a few others there if you'd like a read!
I'll be able to test the RVD1 kick drum mic in the next week I think, unfortunately I'm in the UK so I can't help you about distribution, but I have high hopes for the mic.
Well chess you're getting publicity here :D
Gotta say, I went and found that track myself - and I agree it sounds very nice. What did you use on the snare?
I think I really oughta play with compression a bit more....
Anyway nice job
Well.... if we're on the topic of Ben Folds Five - The unauthorised biography of Reinhold Messner is a very good album - Narcolepsy has to be my favourite track and incredibly depressing!
Fair enough, but then again, there's a 3-4db boost at around 6khz on the SP graph, and the "problem area" appears to be around 6-8, so does the fact that the AT4040 graph appears to have a greater boost at about 6 mean that it's likely to sound even harsher, or do the graphs not necessarily...
I most likely wont get the oppurtunity to try the AT4040 - especially living in the UK where rental and allsorts are even rarer....
I guess its hard to tell, but does the fact that the AT4040 has a similar boost in the area thats causing problems mean it will treat those frequencies with the...
OK - this will probably turn into a flame war, but please try and resist if you're tempted! :D
I have a SP B1 which I'm perfectly happy with when it comes to recording guitar or piano, but doesn't suit my voice as it accentuates the "crispiness" around 6-8k. I'm using a VTB-1 with the mic. I'm...
The mysterious mic itself! I should be getting about £100 soon so would like to buy another mic to use with a SP B1 in recording guitar and piano etc...
I like the B1, but I hate it on my voice as the peak at around 8k really catches the harshness in my voice. I'd like to try a slightly...
Hmmm. Thanks for the info on the B1. I found this on the Shure SM57, the other mic I've tried and had bad results with:

Doesn't surprise me after seeing the graph.
Shame I live in the UK, darker mics are difficult to find :(
Indeed I've tried that suggestion, it seems pretty much every angle I try though I still get this sound :( It's probably more to do with my voice than the microphone unfortunately
Hi guys. Just to point out, it is indeed a Studio Projects mic as opposed to the Behringer. It's running through a VTB-1. It's odd, it just creates a really crispy quality to my voice. A pop-shield doesn't rid of the harshness but a piece of A4 paper does (I know). For a lot of stuff I had to...
This is mic related, as I'm thinking of getting a second B1 to pair my first. I'm happy with its performance on everything except my voice, where (well its my own fault really) I have to EQ off about 4-6db around the 8k range to remove any harshness that I get. Is this too much in the way of...
Thanks guys, sounds like the obvious thing to do then. Does anyone have experience with them stereo recording an acoustic? Would love to know about it! Thanks
I have a single B1 which I like, but I'm dying for a stereo acoustic sound, and I obviously need more than one mic to get a nicer piano sound. I'd like to hear from anyone who uses B1's in stereo configurations. I have done an extensive search across the BBS but while the B1 is mentioned the...
