    Delta 44 - Monitor Outs?

The Delta has a lot of flexibility with regards to external monitoring. If you use the internal mixer, you can route the mixer outputs to either of the two pairs of outputs. You can, however, also route any input to any output So, for instance, you can use the internal mixer to route the four...

    Studio Cabling

Don't forget to use lots of gorilla snot (hand soap) when pulling cables :) (Seriously, it can help, but use it as a last resort... made the difference for me between getting the cables I needed to an projector or not getting them, but... yuck...) Always run more conduit then you think you'll...

    Delta66 + ntrack + win2000 = WORKS!

I'm using PIII 450 with 384 MB ram, but you should be fine with 128 for N-Track (I work for a computer company, we've got ram coming out our ears :) Definitely go with 2000 - it was lightyears better then 98... make sure you get the latest and greatest version of the Delta drivers, not the ones...

Ok, cool. I'll take a look at wav editors and see if I can do the same. Thanks

    Mixdown levels

Hi, guys Ok, I've got a recording which is quite hot when I play it back (peaks at -.5 or so), sounds great. However, when I mixdown to wav (going from 24 bit to 16 bit, btw) the sound gets MUCH quieter when I play the wav file back. Now, I play the wav file back using my SB128 PCI, but...

    Delta66 + ntrack + win2000 = WORKS!

Well, recording 4 tracks, I had to pump up the buffer a bit, but it still sounds pretty damn good using the Live function. Though I have to admit that most of the time I'm just using the Delta patchbay to do monitoring while recording

    Bottom line, Home recording studio

sjoko2 - you'd really recommend starting off by spending THAT much money for someone who has never done this before? I think starting off small with a little more then what he has is a decent way of getting started. He's only (initially) recording himself - what does he need 64 tracks for...

    auralex VS markertek vs Homemadex?

One note - if you use the glue that Auralex sells, you can (carefully) peel the panels off the wall if you want to move em/change rooms whatever

    Bottom line, Home recording studio

Razorm, From the sound of it, since you'll be recording yourself, ProTools would be serious overkill. I would recommend starting fairly small and building yourself up - it'll take less time then you think, but you'll be doing it yourself. Do you have a room that you want to record in now...

What mic do I need for sax /woodwind?

Shure has a new "Instrumentalist" package which I'm looking at now. It is an SM93 on a gooseneck which clips on, with the wireless transceiver and stuff. If you like dancing around, it'd be great. I just don't like the amount of mechanical (ie, keypress) noise that it passes when used on a...

Best components for a music computer?

I should mention that I use just a large, fast drive at home myself - I did the price calculations and decided I could live with the downtime if necessary :) That being said, a large RAID system is a beautiful thing :) I specced out one not too long ago for a company I do consulting work for -...

Best components for a music computer?

I would actually recommend 0+1 rather then RAID 5 because of its faster write performance. However, 0+1 does require at least 4 disks, where RAID 5 requires only 3. I figured I'd go down through the list since if people are comparison shopping they might come across the various RAID levels in...

Before I waste my time and money...

James - I think you need to attach some mass to that aluminum. I think that would tame the rattle better then anything. Essentially, you've got two options as I see it. You can either attempt to prevent sound hitting the aluminum causing it to rattle and prevent the rattle getting back, or...

Best components for a music computer?

You can't do RAID with only one disk. Here's the rundown : RAID 0 - This isn't "real" RAID since it is not Redundant, but most people count it. This is the striping option mentioned above - it increases speed, but, if anything, decreases liability (because you lose all the data if one drive...

Britney Spears, 'N Sync and others

I guess I can sum this thread up... Britney et al are employees who are being given credit for the work of an awful lot of very talented people. They are a product, they are not artists. There may be artists involved, but they are not them. Now, is the package a bad thing? That seems to be...

    small lo-res unobtrusive monitor?

I think you are probably SOL, I'm afraid. Cheap and Small don't go well together in the computer world :) (at least, not small as in portable) There are LCD panels available now for about $1000, but that may break your budget.

    Basic information about monitors

As an aside, regarding the protection issue, Yorkville emailed me back recommending that I don't bother with anything simply because you can't rely on fuses or lightbulbs and they might colour the sound <shrug> I *suppose* I can always buy new monitors if I screw up :)
