I need something to record to under $350

I would prefer it to be a digital recorder and I'm thinking of the fostex mr-8. What do you think of that recorder, and is there anything that you like better? Keep in mind under 350 bucks. Thanks

Some newbie questions about the MR8

Hi, I'm seriously considering buying the MR8 because I really need something to record to and my budget is $300. Now, I know you basically need a computer to transfer your songs to, to get the most out of the MR8. What I'm wondering is if my computer would be good enough. If its not, then I'm...

    Bouncing tracks

I understand when you bounce tracks on an analog recorder, you lose quality. Is it any better to bounce tracks on a digital recorder?

SM57 + preamp question (chessparov or anyone else ??)

My guess is that almost any mic would sound better running through the RNP instead of the pre in the 424. For the popping, make sure to use a pop filter when you use the 57 on vocals. ps- I'm so new to recording I probably shouldn't be giving out advice :)

    Distortion pedal for pop music

I guess no one knows what I am talking about. Forget the Beulah thing, that was an example for esactun.... I think what I need is a "fuzz" distortion pedal. Maybe I could get some help if I asked what are some of the better fuzz effects out there. I am NOT looking for something especially...

Wow - just did my first vocal recording!

Hi, I want to add, the book that chessparov was so kind to recommend (thanks), is actually titled "Set Your Voice Free". I had trouble finding it when I searched for "Setting Your Voice Free", so I want to make sure no one else has that problem. Good luck

    Distortion pedal for pop music

hi esactun, No, I have not checked out the danelectro stuff. After reading your post I did search for some audio samples of danelectro pedals but can't seem to find them anywhere. My budget is up to $100 for now, but if it costs more to get the sound I need then I will have to save up for it...

    Distortion pedal for pop music

Hi, I need some help finding the right distortion pedal. I guess I would describe the sound I'm looking for as warm, sweet, fuzzy. etc. I do not want something that sounds harsh, heavy, mean, etc. Most of the pedals I have heard sound like metal or hard rock distortion tones, but I'm looking...

best preamp under or around $500

Doh! This thread is as good as dead and the issue about the VTB-2 still isn't resolved. I'm suprised Alan Hyatt hasn't chimed in. I hope he does.

    Mic watch...

tubedude, thanks for this thread. I hadn't read much about the Sennheiser 441 here before, but I had read lots on the Sm57, C-1, etc. From what I get from your posts, the 441 is a much better buy, and that is what I am looking for. Never heard of the Beyer M88 either. I am new to all of this...

Would anyone be willing to post a track that would greatly benefit from some compression, and then post that exact same track with compression applied?

    New guitar setup

Hi everyone, I recently bought a new Godin SDxt guitar. I've read about people having their guitar professionaly setup and I wonder what this entails? If possible I would like to save some money and do these things for my guitar myself. I do know that the strings on this guitar are higher...

100 mics and 50 preamps – and we're just getting started.

I noticed the gear list includes Studio Projects C4 and LSD-2 mics as well as the VTB-2 pre. I can't wait to hear those! Thanks Dot!

    Guitars under $400

Nearly three months later...... I finally bought a guitar. A new 2001 model Godin SDxt. It has a really minor cosmetic problem (few slight scratches). I paid $222 for it and a gig bag. It is going to be scratched up by me anyway, but I know some people like to put that first scratch on it...

    Solved what's the difference between a pg-57 and a pg-58

Shure actually makes these mics, the pg 57 and pg 58, but they are different than the well known 57 and 58. They cost around $50 and I don't know any thing else about them.

    cheap first mic

http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=922753549 This is the first mic I ever bought. It doesn't sound very good but I'll give the mic the benefit of the doubt and say that it might sound ok if I had some kind of pre amp. I've never heard anyone rave about a mic in this price range...

    MXL V67B = $89 at sam ash

So, you guys like the m37 better than the v67? I'm asking because I am about to order my first pre-amp and mic. I have $200 to spend and I've pretty much decided on the audio buddy pre. The mics I'm looking at are the cad m37, mxl v67, and sp b-1. This mic is going to be used for recording...

    Replacing an acoustic bridge.

Your suspisions were right, I was calling the saddle the bridge. How long is it safe for my acoustic to be without its strings? I've been warned this could warp the neck. I'm guessing it will take me awhile to get a new saddle and shape it.
