I've had mine for a year and a half.. its been a great machine for me. But tomarrow morning I am selling it.... I've since upgraded to 16 track, and need space to move the 16 track in. But I'm REALLY going to miss this machine its been so great and so easy to use to make great sounding demos...

the msr-16 rocks! its a beast of a machine. i got mine in almost new shape the owner hardly used it for 600... and i use a tascam m2516 mixer that i got for 300.

you could almost get a 388 for that much!

it made my voice sound like a chipmunk when a local producer used it on me... i couldnt sing that hi pitched even if i wanted to and it sounds horrible.

I always do drums first then layer over that... lately I've been thinking if I recorded a guitar track with a click track then did drums afterwards that would probably work out alright? Ive been thinking of it but havent tried it. Has anyone tried this?

i used to only use 1 or 2 at a max.. inspired by my friends band who did an album on 1" 16 track with only 2 mics on the drums. but now im spoiled and use EIGHT! its way more work but its alright i guess.

I have both machines, I use the 388 more often because well tape cost. I am planning on doing a release on the msr-16 early next year though. As far as overall quality goes the msr-16 is a beast compared to the 388. the quality is better, then again I like the board i use with the msr-16...

1/4" 8 track is fine for making really good sounding demos. Some even sounds like it could be released. It doesnt sound as good as 2" 16 track. But if you wanna make a really good sounding reference of songs you write it sounds great, and people always ask me "wow what'd you record this on?"
