    Another Mic Shoot Out

Personally I thought number one sonded kind of cool. Not your text book example, maybe it was distorted, I thought it gave a little character. But if we arn't going for charachter and individual sound then I would go with number four. Thats my $.02 9/10 :D

question on recording directly to CD

A few hundred copies withing 15 to 30 minutes!?!!?   That is your problem not recording direct to CD. You need a CD recorder something like a Sony or Tascam that you plug the main outs of your mixer into. Just hit play and record and let it do the work. If you want individual...

Recording the Not so Common (ram's horn)

This is of the small variety of shofars, so it might be its size giving it its thing charactaristics. The mic was about 4-6 inches from the shofar, though it was miced on the side rather than at the hole end of the ram's horn. Shold I try micing the hole end? And yeah sho far so good you can...

Recording the Not so Common (ram's horn)

Ok, I found my self of all things recording a ram's horn (yes a ram's horn, you play it quite like a trumpet, exep there are very few notes that can be played) this week, and since this was not the final recording I just sort of pointed an md-421 in its general direction. It came out ok albeit a...

Monday Afternoon (well blues wouldn't really fit)

Hrm... We will have to confer with the judges on this one... I think you were are refering to the "ding" that sort of periodically plays correct?

Monday Afternoon (well blues wouldn't really fit)

No it is not a book or a table, though sometimes it could have just as easily been. Those were just examples!!! If no one can figure it out before tomorrow afternoon, I'll post the "instrumentation".

    cymbal suggestions

I have a set of Sabian B8's and they just plain make me angry! The cymbals just dont do what I want. They seem very dark, very short decay, just plain un-pleasant. (disclaimer I am not a drummer nor claim to be, I soley do it as a hobby)

Monday Afternoon (well blues wouldn't really fit)

Yeah, the recorder is one of the instruments, though actually the guy who played the recorder played two at the same time. When I say name the instruemnts, someone might have used a book or a table as an instrument so see if you can figure out what those were. Bonus points to the person who...

    Digital vs. Analog cd-r recording/burning

Um... Is it phisically possible to have an analogue CD? Don't all CD's record with 1's and 0's (aka digital)?

    Dual Intel or AMD?

I have no experience with either of those processors personally, but for my last three computers that I have build I have gone with AMD and not been disapointed. My current recording rig is a Dual core AMD 4400+ and it really flies. If there is any way that you can afford the 4400+ I would...

Using tube pre in signal chain

Hrm... tube pre... We are talking about something atleast aroung $400 like the Brick right? Nearly everything lower than $400 is a starved plate design which will not really give you what you are looking for. As for your question the signal path would be like follows: Mic->Pre amp->line in on...

    Monitors, Pres, Mics, Oh my!

I would seriously doubt it. It could be potentially dangerous I would guess as well becasue the signal would already be at line level. Your active monitors need no further amplification so long as they are at line level. And you would not want to put a line level signal into a mic pre.

    Monitors, Pres, Mics, Oh my!

Whats even more fun with my room is that the walls are concrete! Yup our house was built with out skimping on any expense, especially for a 1920's house. Its got a wood exterior followed by a layer of cement, followed by air, followed by cement, followed by some more air, then yes finally...

    Monitors, Pres, Mics, Oh my!

Thanks, but it is no where near completed. Though the one of the main reasons that I was interested in pres in the first place is that I have five mics and only four pres. And I was anoyed when someone beat me out on an A-designs MP-2 for $1000, at $500 per chanel of nice clean tube sound, that...

    Monitors, Pres, Mics, Oh my!

You have to realize something. First of all I'd love to spend money on some of those real traps. But at $200 a piece, they are definitivly not in my budget. Second I live in New Orleans. Second living in New Orleans I simply do not have the access to these materials like 703, due to the severe...

    Best Equipment - Recording Acoustics/Vocals

I'd probably recomend picking up the Presonus Inspire 1394 to go into that firewire port. In terms of mics If he is looking at recording both at the same time, there is the MXL 604 which should work on guitar in either its omni or cardinoid head. Then for vox something like a MXL V67 or Studio...

    tlm-103 with eureka presonus preamp

I don't have any helpful advice to add unfortunatly, but... GO NEW ORLEANS!!! Its great to see people returning to normal activity after this disaster. I myself return this week when my family is having a large holidays gathering. Um... yeah preamps and soundcards thats what we were...
