    Tascam MS-16 no passing audio

Okay - I have been poking around inhere and still cannot seem to solve what is happening. Again, the unit records at 10K and slowly declines in level as the freqeuncy is turned down. Recording is non existent at around 2k. This shows where I have found the issue when tracing the signal...

    AQ-65 Manual

I finally got a copy of the AQ-65 manual - has some interesting features I wouldn't have figured out (pre-roll, loop etc..). I hadn't been able to find one anywhere. Anyhow - if anyone was looking for a scan I'd be happy to put one together, 11 x 7 schematics and all! Mike

    Tascam MS-16 no passing audio

Just got this (new to me) MS-16 set up and I have 3 channels that don't pass audio in sync or repro. I have changed out the relays so they are not the culprits. These channels will show levels in input so it's nota meter issue... Thoughts? Mike

    Tascam AQ-65 acting up

Ok! Just got my remotes in for my newly acquired MS-16 and when I tuned on the AQ-65 it wasn't very happy... See the attached pics of the display and none of the buttons work. If I turn it on and off sometimes the display shows nothing either... Not sure if this is an internal power issue or a...

    JH-110a-8 vs MS-16

Okay I think I may be getting a little nutty... Considering purchasing an MS-16 because I would like to have more than 8 tracks on tape. Sonically am I going to be missing much going from my restored MCI to an MS-16. I just can't deal with 2" tape cost... So I want to keep to 1". Thoughts and...

Sync my JH-110A to Reaper DAW via a JL Cooper PPS-1

Title says it all! I purchased a PPS-1 off ebay for $1.00 (advertised as working). When I stripe a track with SMPT from the JL Cooper PPS-1 and then run the midi out from it to my interface its a no go in Reaper. I have enable playback to be synchronized in Reaper... Mildly frustrated here -...

    Mci jh-110

I seriously considering taking the plunge on a non-working JH-110 (that seems to be my M.O. on most of the equip I buy as I'm okay with the soldering iron). It depends on head stack condition... but I wanted to get opinions as to whether it is an upgrade beyond my 80-8. It is still 8 tracks...

    Basf 911

Heyo - I just bought 3 reels of new (from the early 200's apparently) BASF 911. Just curious if this was at all different than RMGi 911. I assume its the same formula so I don't epect any real sonic difference... but for $50/each being unused I thought I would give it a go (considering RMGi...

Reel to Reel to Mixing desk - unbalanced to balanced

I figured I'm not the only one who is in this situation and I thought I would run it by you guys. I have a Soundcraft series II mixing desk that operates at +4. My Teac 80-8 operates at -10. Ths is my signal chain: Mics -> Soundcraft -> 80-8 -> Soundcraft -> computer I have been fighting...

How much shed is normal with 911?

Just curious how much shed/oxide build up I should expect using RMG 911? I have been using the tape on my machine for the past couple of weeks - pretty infrequently but may 8-10 hours total and I thought I would check what the heads looked like. I was pretty shocked to see quite a bit of...

    Calibration for 80-8

Just wanted to see if there was any point in calibrating what I can on my 80-8 without having an MRL tape... I have a proper true RMS voltmeter (an escort-2010) and I have an oscillator on my Soundcraft Series 2, I just haven't shelled out for the MRL tape yet. I was goign to do some aligning...

    Interesting Ebay buy in Georgia?

Maybe someone with more knowledge than I can weigh in on this: http://cgi.ebay.com/Tascam-48-OB-8-Channel-Reel-Reel-Tape-Recorder-48-/190436795005?pt=Vintage_Electronics_R2&hash=item2c56eae27d Now - I'm in Canada so it is out of the question... but when it included 35 new reels of tape this...

    Teac / Tascam 80-8

Hi there, First post here - so hello everyone! I just picked an 80-8 which appeared to be in pretty good shape but it looks like the transport is doing some funky things. Now the caveat here is that I don't have any tape to run with it yet, but I don't think it should affect the transport...
