Live in studio. Solo artist. Cover of a Beatles tune.

Just checking out my new camera. I recorded the audio in Adobe Audition and then imported it to the video editing software. Thanks for any helpful comments.

Acoustic Duo - Record Stereo or Mono?

I've always had this rule-of-thumb about recording acoustic guitar. If the acoustic will be playing solo, record it in stereo. If the acoustic is added to other instruments as rhythm or background, record it in mono and pan it to a single point. Soon, I will record a an acoustic duo with...

How can I get involved with larger studios?

There is a large studio in my area that does pro work. I would like to gain experience (above and beyond my home studio) by working along with some of the engineers there. My goal is to eventually become one of the house engineers that they use. Should I just go knock on the door and offer to...

Finally getting a usable tom sound (drum tracking)

I been on a personal quest to improve the sound of my toms. I want that deep rich low-end like I hear on the radio, as well as good attack. I don't know if I've got it yet, but getting closer. EDIT: If attachment doesn't work, try the one in the next post.

Attaining that Rich and Lush sounding low end on toms?

When I listen to rock or country songs on the radio, I notice that the toms (and bass too) often sound really fat, full, rich, and lush in the low end. The toms really get my attention without being on top of the music. When I try to EQ that richness in my DAW, they just end up sounding, well...

Live Rock Band - My first attempt at editing

This is one of several songs I edited for this band. It is old footage from four consumer camcorders. The audio comes from the cameras. I doctored it up the best I could.

    Is BayViewProAudio out of business?

For weeks, I have been unable to load their website. I want to buy stuff, but I don't like making calls to do it. Oh well, their loss.

Question about analog summing amps and panning.

I am considering going to an analog summing amp, but I am a bit confused about the panning capabilities of units like the SPL MixDream 2591 or Dangerous 2-Bus LT. Question... If I have a mono track in my DAW that I want to pan, say, 70% left and 30% right, will that consume two channels in the...

Bit-depth missmatch between my software and hardware

First of all, my recording software and my interface are made by two different companies and seem to be unrelated. When I start a new session in my recording software, I get to choose the sample rate. If I change the sample rate, the hardware conforms and reports the new rate. No problem...

Looking for util to clean up the "Recorded" folder in ver. 2.0

A few years ago, I heard about a 3rd party utility that helps recover wasted disc space within the "Recorded" folders. Apparently it deletes all files not included in the saved sessions. Granted, I can clean out the folders manually but, once you have a dozen takes of each instrument along with...

About the new AA vesion CS 5.5

I understand that this new version (Adobe Audition CS 5.5) was a complete redesign from the ground up. As a result, in their rush to meet the release date deadline, they were forced to forgo some features because there simply was not enough time to implement and test everything within the new...

Parallel Compression on Snare works well

I recorded this band live last weekend. I couldn't get the snare up front in the mix without clipping the meters. Simply compressing or limiting the snare track sucks the life out of the drum and leaves it sounding dull. That vital mid-range attack seems to live within those transient peaks...

This is what happens when everyone cooperates. (Live gig)

I recorded this band at their live gig. Everything when according to plan. This one sounds sweet under the cans, but I don't know if the mp3 version will sound good though.

Successful Live Gig Recording - 15 mics (Country)

I would like your opinions on the mix so far. I got lucky and had full cooperation from the band and house soundman. I even got to choose which stage mics to use. The tracks came out nicely. Let me know what you think. Thanks.

What the hell is on this mic?

What the...? Who the...? How the...? Is that a shock mount on the front of that mic? Is this some new technique that I don't know about?

    Unsupported VST Plugs?

Does anyone know what causes some third-party VST plugins to show up on the unsupported list? The word "Unsupported" actually shows up on the Effects menu between DirectX and VST. :( (I use Audition 2.0 on Windows7 64 bit.)

Does BSOD hurt or currupt Windows?

After having a dozen or more blue screens of death on my DAW, I finally found the problem and corrected it. (One stick of memory was bad.) But now I can't shake the feeling that Windows 7 may be a little unstable after all of those errors and crashes caused by the faulty memory. What do you...

Searching for a certain 1/4" jack - Where to buy?

Does anyone know where I can buy these jacks in quantity? (perhaps 100 or more each order.) It is a Switchcraft 111X but I would prefer a cheaper generic copy. I was buying them from a supplier for about $0.92 ea. but I wiped them out and they are back ordered until at least March. It is just...

Keep Your Hands (Corrected prior mix)

Based on advice from another thread, I made a few changes to my mix. I lightened up on the low-end and tweaked instrument EQs. I think it is getting better. (This is a home demo for a local band to get a few weekend bar gigs.) keephands2.mp3 Thanks for the help, everyone.

Stupid question about 7 pin cables

I have several of those 7 pin cables for all of my tube mics. Are they interchangeable from one mic to another? I mean, are they always wired with the same pinout? ...Or would you advise keeping the original cable stored with each mic?
