I've noticed that in older recordings (like the Beatles) certain tracks are panned all the way to the left or right. It sounds kind of cool. Was there a special reason for this and why isn't it done on most recordings today? What are the pros and cons of recording in this style? Tucci

While mixing down to my stereo casette deck I make sure that my recording levels are peaking at about 3db. When I play the tape back however I have to turn the volume knob up an unusual amount to get a good listening volume. What am I doing wrong? Thanks for any help. Tucci
