    Teac 3440 Tension Setting?

Happened again today. What I'm thinking is it has something to do with the tension the Teac is leaving on the reel because it's usually after I play the first side. (What I'm failing to do is run the tape through before playing, which is a standard precaution.)

    Crazy Print-Through

I was amazed when I saw the design from the leader tape printed through on the actual tape itself! Never saw anything like this:

    Teac 3440 Tension Setting?

No rhyme or reason with this - the other day I transferred a tape with no issues. But when I went back to check something, this happened twice, stretching the tape in both places. Thank goodness I got the transfer first. I'm now using small reels with small reels, which I hope will help somewhat.

Thanks - will watch. Interface has 20 outputs.

    Outboard Compressor With Reaper?

I have an analogue compressor I wish to use with Reaper. Haven't done this before - is this just a matter of sending the signal out through the interface, to the unit, and then returning it from the unit and interface, back to Reaper? The unit has balanced ins and outs, and so does my...

    414 B-ULS Repair Quote

Don't think it was, or I would've had second thoughts about sending it. (You know, bin it - right into their parts drawer.)

    414 B-ULS Repair Quote

What struck me as odd was the bench fee was mentioned only after I declined to have it binned and sent back to me.

    414 B-ULS Repair Quote

Not AKG - Land Audio. $85 bench fee.

    414 B-ULS Repair Quote

Makes me wonder if it's at all worth it. All new parts, all new framing - is it the same mic I originally bought? Also makes me think if these mics are in such demand, why doesn't AKG reissue them (and others?)

    414 B-ULS Repair Quote

I have an AKG 414 B-ULS that was damaged in a flood a few years ago. It's badly corroded and rusted. I was quoted a price of $2,000 to repair it, which is about $500 more than they can be had on the used market. Is this usual - for a repair to be more costly than a functioning one?

Not sure, but a great song.

    Teac 3440 Tension Setting?

I've been transferring tapes and sometimes I have to mix 7" and 10" reels while doing so. My question is regarding the reel/small/large setting. I would think this is tension control for the reel, but for which one, the take-up? I'm asking because while transferring a tape today (with the 7" as...

    Rack Recommendations?

Thanks - I was thinking of maybe going the plastic route, as I like the idea of a cover I can close.

    Rack Recommendations?

Thanks. I should mention I need to have this as light as possible, as I live in a flood zone, and need to be able to grab and go, if it comes to that.

    Rack Recommendations?

I'm thinking of buying a rack to mount some of my gear. I plan on having about 10 pieces when it's all done. Anyone have any recommendations?

    Help with singing crowd

As for things to look out for - if you listen to the original Rock And Roll Animal LP by Lou Reed, you can hear a distinctive chuckle repeated a few times. This always struck me as strange, until I learned they used a John Denver audience track for some of the crown noises.

Do Tape head cleaner or rubber conditioner go bad?

Hey - nobody mentioned the yellow stuff that came in the set with the blue & red bottles. It was to clean the surface of the recorder, which I used to do regularly.

    Odd Splicing Block Problem

Thanks for all the ideas. Yes, it's an aluminum block - and vinegar sounds like a good idea. I used to love manual splicing when that's all there was. I used to drape long pieces of tape on a mic stand across my room and be able to adjust the tension just right for some loops that were minutes...

    Odd Splicing Block Problem

Strange problem: I have a favorite metal splicing block I've used for many years. When I went to use it the other day, I see there is something in the 45° groove; the one I use the most. It was stored in a humid environment for some time, so I'm thinking it may be rust. I've tried to clear the...
