    Am I nuts?

For the past few months I've been saving up to buy a Taylor that costs roughly US$1200. When I tell ppl about this (both guitarists and non-guitarists) they tell me that I'm crazy to spend that much money on an acoustic guitar. I'm wondering: Am I? Have I lost my mind? Because, to me, it...

    SM57+Tube MP = mud ?

Hello world. (That's how you open a thread when you've been doing computer programming tutorials for the past 2 months) Dragon, I don't know what you've done, but with the amount of users you're getting on this site these days you're either rolling in dough or else you're going nuts...

    Oh man that Taylor.....

I've looking at acoustic guitars for the past couple weeks (sub US$1000) and haven't been satisfied with anything I've tried. Until today... I tried a Taylor 314ce. Both unplugged and pluged in this thing sounded great. Really great. Too bad it costs nearly US$1300 and I probably won't be...

finger snaps-- keep or throw away? (1 MB file)

Man it took me a long time to find somewhere to upload this to... Anyway, this is a 1 minute excerpt (spelling?) from a song I'm working on for a friend (approx 1MB). There are no vocals yet. At around 00:14 it goes to the bridge where I have put some finger snaps. My friend (the guy who...

general usage "my first sound module"

I'm thinking about buying a sound module because I've been dissatisfied with the soundfonts I've been using with my sblive card. I've never owned or used a module before so I don't know much about them. I'm looking for a decent general purpose sound module, preferrably under US$400-$500. I'm...

Which comes first: monitors or mixer?

Right now this is basically my setup: Cakewalk -> SBLive -> Technics Receiver -> crappy speakers. A while back I asked about purchasing new equipment and some ppl suggested that I buy new monitors (passive) and power them with my Technics until I can afford to buy a better power amp. I was...

tape decks: low end sansui vs. low end teac

I'm looking for a cheap dual-deck tape recorder. I'll mainly be using it for dubbing tapes, checking mixes, and every once in a while, actually for *listening*. I'm looking at sub-US$150 I was primarily looking at Teac decks but I was at a stereo shop the other day and found a Sansui deck for...

8-16 ohm amp with 4 ohm monitors

Under the speaker connections on my amplifier it says "8 - 16 ohms resistance". I wanted to use this amp with a pair of Event 20/20's but those are rated at 4 ohms. Does this mean I have to buy a new amp? Or is it OK to use the 4 ohm speakers even though the print says not to? Thanks

    dented frets

What do you guys do when your frets start to get dented? One thing that I've seen ppl do is something like sanding the frets down. But I dont want to do this because it changes the 'feel' and playability of the guitar. I'm not too fond of flat fretted guitars. I like 'em big and fat. Is it...

    my POD question finally answered

A while back before I bought my POD I was on this forum asking about how it holds up live and how well it works with the footswitch, I got some helpful answers but I guess I didn't really get it. I tried my POD playing thru a Marshall amp with a band today for the first time, using the FB4...

    using external mixers

if you use an external mixer that is capable of automation how do you connect it to your sequencing software (ie. cakewalk, logic audio, etc)? i mean if it's automated it has to be synched with the sequencer somehow right? Or does it have to be a special kind of mixer? (I already posted this...

    event 20/20 connectors

This is from the Event site: "Connectors: Red and black five-way binding posts on 3/4" centers" Anyone with a pair of 20/20's want to tell me what sort of connectors these are? What is 'five-way'? When they say 'red and black binding posts' do they mean those posts where you plug in the raw...

    resampling & anti-alias filters

I've moved up from 44.1KHz sampling to 48KHz. I did searches for these questions but didn't find anything. First, when going back down to CD format (44.1), what is the preferred method of converting down to 44.1? Resampling is what I've been doing. Am I doing the right thing? Second, when...

    AC/DC Adapters: Volts & Amps

Hello. I live in Thailand where the electricity voltage is 220 volts. I have 2 AC/DC adapters: a) The adapter that came with my POD (which was purchased in thailand) Input: 230V 50Hz Output: 9VAC 1200mA b) The one that came with my ART Tube MP (purchased in the USA) Input: 120VAC 60Hz...

Connections: ART Tube MP --> SB Live Line-in

Here's a connection question: I recently aquired an ART Tube MP. I connect it to my soundcard (SBLive Value) as follows: ART TubeMP 1/4" out --> 1/4" to 1/8" adapter --> SBLive Line-in The 1/4" output is mono, while the SBLive Line-in is stereo. The causes problems while monitoring...

This is "Wait" again with a couple corrections. Turned down the cymbals/snare a edited a couple other things. For the most part it's the same as the first one I posted with a few minor changes. Just wanted to check the mix with you guys first. http://www.geocities.com/SouthBeach/6246/1.htm...

Those darn NS10's again (MS vs MC)

Was looking at the Yamaha site for info on the contraversial NS10's. I found that there are 2 of them. The NS10MC and NS10MS. The product descriptions on the site are very similar (even the picture is the same) and the specs are identical. Someone asked this question in this forum before but...
