To clarify, I did mean boom arm. With the new recording space I'll be able to stand so it would be nice to have the option to do character work standing :)
I was planning to get a cloudlifter for it, and maybe a boom arm but I’ve had some trouble figuring out what would be a good boom arm to get. I’ve hear if I’m not careful they can add some unwanted frequencies. Any suggestions on a good boom arm for the RE20?
Ok I think I've settled on facing the inside of the closet with the door open behind me, but I've bought a clothing rack on amazon where I can drape a large curtain behind me and experiment with the distance away from me to see how open I can sound. Unfortunately I can't do it the other way...
Thanks for your feedback. I was leaning towards the RE20, but I'm a little concerned about the "not as good at picking up nuance" comment above.
I put the shotgun on the list because for some reason its listed as a "must have" by many VO professionals but I'm not 100% why. Glad to hear that...
Thanks, that makes sense. Unfortunately I really don't have any other space in the apartment. I also have a bunch of animals in the tiny little apartment with me and the closet is the only way I'm not picking up them walking around, trying to get into my recording space, etc (I used to have a...
Thanks for your thoughtful comments. :) You're right that my space is pretty enclosed, I'm in a converted closet that I padded to death. I'm going to be moving to a slightly larger space and trying to be more strategic with my sound treatment in the next couple of days.
You mentioned "find a...
I do voice over work and right now I just have a Shure SM58. I'm a female so looking to upgrade to something appropriate for my voice. I do everything from high energy commercial work to more whispery NSFW audio. I think I've narrowed it down to between EV RE20, Mojave 301FET & Sennheiser MKH...
I'm new to VO and the thing I'm having the hardest time understanding is the standards for editing. Its hard to find guidelines for what is "right" and "wrong", and what can pass as a professional sound. I set up a converted closet studio and would really like to get good enough to do all my own...
I'm guessing its just the podcast presetting is bad ? I recorded without the setting and it sounds better. Does anyone know what in their podcast setting would cause the wonkiness?
I just bought Audition and don't know what I'm doing. At the link below I've compared my raw audio from garageband vs my raw audio from Audition and for some reason the background noise on the Audition clip sounds weird and inconsistent while from Garageband I was getting a really consistent...
I do podcasting and voice over work in a converted closet studio in a 2nd floor apartment. Right now the setup is basic, I've got a big fluffy blanket on the side wall, and then a cut up twin size mattress topper on the wall in front and another twin size mattress topper on the closet door...
Hmm I can see if I can do something less extreme, but they need a spike so they can find the errors, quickly so I think anything that spikes it is going to cause it to be wonky.
So this was recorded in garageband and then loaded into Audacity, both are spoken word files. The left audio was recorded with the exact same settings and set up and is zoomed in roughly the same amount as the left. On the left, the ONLY difference is that the client wanted me to add a clap when...
I'm watching Hasan Piker videos on youtube and I'm noticing that with both the Shure SM7B and with what looks like maybe a Blue Yeti Pro he's able to chew gum and eat garlic bread basically right next to the mic and it doesn't pick it up at all.
Meanwhile, every one of my audiobook recordings...
Is it a big enough quality increase to justify upgrading? I'm also considering the SM7B, but I'm a female and my understanding is that the MV7 boosts the mids while the SM7B boosts low frequencies and gives you more of a "booming, broadcast" sound, which I'm not really looking for. I currently...
Hi all,
I've hosted a podcast for the last 3 months, and part of my goal was to improve my recording and mixing techniques to then start taking on audiobook work. My most recent episode is the best I've been able to achieve; I'm wondering if you think I should start trying to audition or is...
