Just ordered another. I went with the PigHog only because I've seen a couple of there cords and at least they look like a quality build so I feel good reading @TalismanRich comment !!! I'll be sure to check back here with the results.

Checked their website yesterday..."splashy" super busy site and not straightforward to navigate so I blew them out. Proper, "professional" suppliers make their websites clear and simple and quick to know.

I also suspect they claim their cables "sound better" than the competition which is Russ Andrews bllx.

No, the 1/4 ends don't need to be TRS.
There's no advantage or benefit, for your use, and it's more opportunities for the manufacturer to wire it some way other than what you need.

If you refer back to my pinout, it really is pretty simple.
Your TRS, in our case stereo, end has three conductors...That'll be two insulated wires and a shield/screen. Ground, Left and Right.

You want to break that to 2 X TS which each have one insulated wire and a shield/screen...Ground and signal.
So you'll end up with 1/4" Ground and Left, and 1/4" Ground and Right.

You mentioned being good with an iron but needing a schematic.
There's no schematic. ^ That's it.

You could probably make one in 2 minutes from a pair of broken headphones and a guitar lead,
or maybe even cut and rewire the cable you bought.

You might want to check your existing cable with an output from a different device,
I have had instances where smartphones or mp3 players acted weird despite the correct cable and wiring.

But, FFS! A stereo 3.5mm plug and two TS or TRS 1/4" plugs? There are not that many permutations and dealing with headphone outputs and inputs, even if there is a short no harm.

IF! The OP does want a stereo splitter I can do him a schematic in the next hour.

Ahhh this is so helpful !!! I already ordered one, but I'm going to go ahead and cobble one up this weekend just as an exercise. THANK YOU so much for this. One thing I'm quickly learning is...in woodworking you can never have too many clamps....in recording, you can never have too many patch cables !!! :O)

Other than that they seem to have good shielding, I don't think they make a lot of claims about the cable sounding "better". Their shtick seems to be making cables that are rugged. I have both mic cables, TRS to XLR cables to feed my monitors, and a couple of headphone extensions. I can't complain about any of them. I've run over the headphone cables often with my rolling chair. It's still good after about 4 or 5 years.

Their "silent" guitar cables are similar to a cable that a friend was making. My cable has a Neutrik Silent plug which cut the signal when you pull the cable from the guitar, so you don't get any "BUUZZZZ" when you plug it in. PigHog's has a different plug, but does the same thing.

I have several HOSA cables, but I had a 1/4" to RCA stereo cable go bad after only a few usages. The RCA end got intermittent. Not a big issue, I just cut one end and soldered new plugs on the RCA ends (might as well replace both, right?) but it was an hour in the middle of my project when I had to stop.

I mean it seems to me like people are still trying to figure out what cable you need and you’ve ordered a new one even though you’ve proven you have what you need. I guess I can get behind it if you just want the peace of mind having a higher quality cable, but it ain’t gonna get you any closer. Did you actually get it working? Do you want me to try to find and read the manual for your recorder?

Fair enough Rich. I guess this grumpy old bugger was just put off by their over-busy website. I don't WANT to setup a friggin' account with every sodding company I seek information from! I get enough 'king spam as it is!

My hard earned will go to sites which are "quiet", calm, easy to navigate and make finding information dead easy.

Maybe it's worth ruling out issues at the DP02 by another means?

Maybe you could plug in two guitars, or a guitar and bass, and try to achieve 1 in the left and 2 in the right, just as confirmation that the recording and playback setup is good?

From a quick glance, you have to assign your inputs to specific tracks,

• Make certain that input 1 is assigned to track 1, and input 2 is assigned to track 2.
• Then make sure that the pan knobs for tracks 1 + 2 are set to hard left and hard right.

From the manual, it looks like "Input mode" is badly named.
I'd call it "Monitor mode" as it "does not affect the recording" and "affects the way that you monitor the input signals"

• You should be setting this to Stereo so that your panning is reflected in the monitoring (speakers/headphones).

If you've already done all of this and there is some issue with the wiring of your current cable, you'll know when the replacement comes.

If you think cable making or basic troubleshooting and repair might be in your future, a cheap digital multimeter is a must-have.
Even without deep knowledge, you can 'beep test' cable connectors to confirm their wiring in a few seconds.

I haven't seen a response to my previous post. The point was to determine if the monitoring was set incorrectly. If that's the case, a different cable won't solve it.

Victory !!!
The new cable came in today and works like a charm !! Looks exactly like the other one so I get why everyone agreed I had the right cable. I tested the new one with my cell phone as well as my Zoom H2N and viola, left and right channels are totally independent of each other !! . Just for kicks I pulled the other one out of the recycle bin, plugged it in, without changing a thing and yep, again everything was back in mono. The cable was the culprit all along !! So long story short, just because a cable is brand new doesn't guarantee it's good!! THANK YOU again to all that contributed positive suggestions to work through this. Much appreciated !!!

The other cable should have worked. Obviously something was buggered in that cable's wiring. A cheap VOM meter will tell you instantly what points are connected to what on the old cable.

Good call and Jim also said "....can't have enough patch leads" A wise observation and if his pile grows it might be worth investing in a multi-way cable tester? Far easier to use than a meter and can test for intermittent connections...you wiggle it a bit.

"Funny" story. I have an "audiophile" expensive stereo RCA-RCA cable and each side is a heavy, 4mm cable. The fekkiing thing has gone intermittent! I replaced it with a cheap and flimsy lead I had had for 20+ years in the junk box. Nay bother. The "posh" lead I inherited from my late son-in-law along with a pair of Mission 775s which are too big for my crib and I want to sell.
