i'm new to recording instruments and have had problems recording an acoustic guitar...going for a folky type of sound. i have a shure sm-58, some other dynamic mic and a rode ntk tube mic...i've tried different combos and nothing seems to be great...should i get a condenser mic more suitable...

hi, i'm a hip-hop producer that wants to buy a nice, but cheaper used reel to reel tape recorder to put drums on, and then resample them. i was wondering if anyone could recommend something that i might be able to find off of ebay for around 200-300 dollars, or cheaper, that this would be good...

since this mic has it's own mic pre/tube does that make it less versatile, or can you still use other mic pre's with it? also, how much variation is there between different tubes once they've been replaced?

i was just curious to know if there was a generic range to pan snares/kick/hats/bass. should you pan the kick on the other side of the bass? and what about snares in relationship to the kick?

i'm mixing a hip-hop album that i recorded using a rode NT 1, and the digi 001 mic pre into Pro Tools...most of the tracks, the vocals sound too in front of the music and i'm wondering how i can get the frequencies or whatever to be more dimensional... i'm not sure how to exactly describe...
