I've been looking around for a little while for some decent and affordable mixing monitors. I've heard good things about the Fostex brand and I found a pair of PM0.4W monitors for $150. I'm not sure if I can trust that price however. To be honest I don't know much about what I should be looking...
No problem! Keep in mind, when looking into the PCMCIA firewire cards, look for ones with Texas Instrument Chipsets. I've heard that some interfaces have issues/don't work with other chipsets but the TI's are the industry standard.
Both of those are firewire interfaces. What that means is that in order to connect the unit to your computer you're going to need firewire capabilities. If you're recording onto a desktop you can get a firewire PCI card which you just pop into your computer. That's what I use. From what I've...
Wow, intensive! Not even halfway through and I already understand so much more than I did. It's off to band rehearsal right now but I'll finish it when I get home. Thanks alot! I've seen your name and website all over the place throughout my search and that first page you posted is great. This...
I've been looking around for a while now trying to read up on room treatment and I guess I just don't understand WHAT I'm listening for. I've been told that room treatment is necessary for my mixing room, I just don't know what I really need. I hear talk of people saying their mixes don't...
I wouldn't necessarily advise that, throwing every song into the red is going to leave you with a very loud mix. You don't want your tracks peaking like that.
Could you possibly post a sample so we can see what you mean? Sounds like you may just need to play around with reverb a bit to git a bigger sounding track. It could be all those things you mentioned, I'd say play around with each one until you find something that sounds more like what you're...
I'm glad that you pointed out the difference between inputs and inserts, I had in fact been confusing them. I guess that's why this is the Newbie forum. :o I really like the Mackie boards that you suggested too, looking into them now. Hopefully I can find a good deal on a used unit. Again thanks...
Ok so I'm not way off, good to know. That's the problem I'm having, most of the mixers I find don't have both XLR and 1/4" inputs but if I'm not mistaken you can plug a 1/4 cable part way into the IN and it works as an unbalanced out, right? That's been my plan because I do need individual...
I've been snagging deal after deal on ebay and am quite pleased with the coming together of my simple home studio for the money I've spent. What I'm hung up on now is this. I've got an Interface, MOTU 828 Original, with 2 mic inputs and 6 line inputs. I'm looking to be able to record drums, 2 OH...
I've got about $50 in Best Buy gift cards and I'm really looking to spend that on something that will make my little room "studio" better. My first thought was just getting some better speakers, however there's nothing wrong with what I've got. Why not get something I could really use, right...
