Boxy, irregular room - ideas for treatment?

I just moved to a house in Montenegro where I plan on putting together some video guitar lessons. I am trying to live cheaply over the next year or so while I get my lessons produced and online. So I am in a house that does not have ideal space. I put together the attached 3D diagram (to scale)...

    Acoustic treatment - quickest approach?

I am living in a home for 18 months. I don't have tools and skills for a complicated DIY project. I just want to quickly treat some rooms. Room 1 is medium bedroom size. That is the studio. Room 2 is where I have a guitar speaker cab from which I run a mic into room 1. Room 2 is somewhat bigger...

Using mixer inserts as direct outs to audio card?

Well the thing is I often just jam and not record. So I like to run mics into the mixer then use send/return for fx. And I have several amps and so I don't use the amps' send/returns. And when I record I like to hear the fxs, but record dry. So given all that, I think a mixer is a must. Ideally...

Using mixer inserts as direct outs to audio card?

I have been doing this for a while using a normal TRS cable. I plug it in half way and it works. But everything I read says you are supposed to be doing this with TS cable. So now I am confused. Further, I read that the insert direct out method is a cleaner signal than a dedicated direct out...

    Studio Mixer for under $1000?

What role would the headphone amp play? And wouldn't the splitter degrade the signal? I tried a splitter once and the splitter must have introduced attenuation because the signal became much weaker. Maybe I used the wrong type of splitter. I suppose the best possible, transparent splitter would...

    Studio Mixer for under $1000?

Well, I record acoustic as well and have various mics and various preamps. So I just have the wires all preconfigured so I don't have to keep messing with cables. So though I only do 2 channels at a time, I tend to have wires set up for 4 mics. thanks, brian

    Dual voltage studio monitors?

I have HR824s which only run on 120V. Can someone recommend a logical upgrade to this speaker which runs on 120-240 V, 50-60Hz? I am not attached to Mackie. I just want something that is comparable, which has a wide freq range. I like how the HR824s have decent bass coverage. Though to mix...

    Studio Mixer for under $1000?

Til now I have gotten by with a Mackie 1402 VLZ Pro. I record guitar through a Lynx2 and do my mixing through Mackie HR824s. I record with a Royer R121 mic through a Great River 1NV. I want to upgrade the mixer. I need something that runs 120-240V, 50-60 Hz. It needs to have as transparent as...

Running cables between two rooms - advice?

I am drilling a hole in the wall that connects my studio room with my room that has guitar speaker cabs. What is the correct way to do this so as to minimize sound bleed? Are there special fixures I can buy? Basically, I am running up to 4 mic cables and 4 speaker cables. Thanks! Brian

    How to record voice?

I am very good at recording my guitar but have never recorded voice before. I am making an instructional guitar video and need to have decent voice quality. I plan on using my Studio Project C1 for the voice. It will go into either a RNP Preamp or Great River 1NV. From there into my Lynx2 sound...

    Anyone using the UAD-1??

I have ASUS A7V Athlon 1.2 GHz 768 MB PC133 Delta1010 Matrox G450 IBM 75GXP IBM 60GXP I didn't have any compatibility problems. I haven't messed with the reverb too much. Sounds at least as good as any plugin I've heard. Audiophile types seem to think it is much better than any native...

    Anyone using the UAD-1??

I picked one of these bad boys up fpr $650. Best money I ever spent. Now when I mix in cubase, the host CPU is quite low, as all the power hungry stuff (reverb, compression) go to the UAD-1. Just wondering what others think of this great card.

Anyone want to critique some mixes?

I am a guitarist who is trying to develop reasonable mixing skills. I am working on a cd. I want to make somewhat decent mixes on my own and then ultimately pay a pro to do it right. Here are a couple guitar instrumentals that I wrote. The thing that I always have trouble with are: 1) relative...
