Yesterday afternoon a little rhythm phrase popped into my head and has been worming its way around going off in several directions, but nothing is really clicking - gelling.

There are several progressions that fit ok but nothing spectacular as of yet. Right now it sounds more like three different songs from the same idea.. actually that's exactly what it is. All three fighting for the same space.

Either I continue to thrash it out, looking for that magical connection which will lock it all together, or put the guitar down and try developing a melody with lyrics in hopes of that taking the lead, showing me the way.

Watched the Green Day's Heart Like a Hand Grenade making of doc and a cool idea that they ran with is to take 3 different short songs that each member got stuck at about a minute and combined them into a three part three and half minute mini opus. So if you can find a way to string the disparate ideas together with some sort of theme, you could use all of them. Just a thought/.

That might work. I keep butting the beginnings and ends of these together and it's like trying to attach two bare rope ends without tying or fastening.

Good riff. Try putting some lyrics together. It might help you focus on the direction you need to go. I had the music essentially done for a song, and when I started finishing the lyrics I realized the rhythm was wrong. I was working on the chorus while doing yard work and when I changed the order of some of the words, a new rhythm popped in my head. Same chord progression, just different rhythm.

I'm experiencing a bit of writer's block as far as developing some sort of melody I can wrap lyrics around. Continuing to plug away.. this may indeed wind up being turned inside out and, possibly, only a small section surviving.

Nice piece.
I see it as one song, that goes in slightly different directions for variation. I started humming a melody straight away, so you should be more than able to.

what amp and microphone are you using?

Sounds pretty vintage..nice one.

This setup caught my ear first, but I'm moving to a '65 Twin Reverb - it's fuller, smoother and less harsh.

Here's this one :

AmplitTube 4's proprietary gear:

Amp Model : 50W 6L6
Cab : Open Vintage 1x12
Speaker : American 12K (Jensen C12K)
Mic 1 : Dynamic 57
Mic 2 : Condenser 87

It's starting to breathe on it's own now. I turned part of it inside out and substituted two new riffs - one is from a classic rock hit, which was unintentional, and it just fits and it's brief. Still.. may not come out on the other end when this is over. For me, this gets me generating melodies in my head at least, I wasn't doing that at the start.
