Post it up. If you prefer not to edit, that's a legitimate choice. For me, it would be a waste of time. I've done it that way before--9/10 of the way through a guitar solo and thinking: "please God, don't let me screw up now! Ooooh, shit!" Instead I do five or six takes back to back and comp together the best bits. It makes life easier, and I'm all about that.

EDIT: I see you posted. Listening.

Yeah, good mix. Snare is coming through well. Guitar tone and level are fine to my ears. Nice round bass sound, cuts through well. What are you using?

I never edit guitar and bass tracks. I like each track to be a continuous performance, no editing or copy and pasting.

I personally think you need to re-consider the editing thing man. Even if it's just to cut off the silence/hiss/finger squeaks here/there, it makes for a cleaner sounding recording, & there's absolutely nothing wrong with it, in fact to me, it's the "right" thing to do...I get it that you want your tracks to be as raw/real as possible, but again, there's not a thing wrong with chopping off parts of tracks that are just noise (no playing) to clean up your mix...

I listened to the most recent (I think) clip/mix here Jdude...It sounds fine to me, but as mentioned you'll probably have to tweak levels after the vocals are put in there...

That's just the same old bass sim I've been using a for years. I tweaked it plenty when I first dialled it in and I've not touched it since. It's the same sound I use for everything.

Yeah, I'd chop out empty pieces of track, say between choruses, just to cut down on noise or something, where Im just waiting for my cue. But I'm not chopping multiple takes together, to me, that's just not a performance.

Cheers anyway miner. And thanks for the help with the drum package. It's not so much that it's easier to make beats but it's a fuck of a lot easier to edit them and make small changes.

I get it man, but even just cutting the empty spaces is editing...Just sayin'....:laughings:

It's just what you get used to Jdude, eventually, you'll find what works for you & what doesn't...

Sounds pretty good!!!

I edit the fuck out of my tracks. A recording is like a painting to me. Live performance and recording are two totally separate entities in my book. I do both, so no-one can call me out on that.

I listened first to the original mix and then the two most recent ones. The differences are getting more subtle with each mix, which indicates to me you're close to where you want it. I think what you have now is a huge improvement over the original. The guitar levels, and the drums (particularly the cymbals) sound so much better at this stage. It was interesting to get to hear the progression in mixes all at once like that. Thanks for posting these. I don't really have any suggestions at this point in the absence of vocals.

I am with you on the editing thing. It's not that I object to it in principle or think less of others for doing it, I just don't myself. Admittedly, I don't put myself in a position of having to play anything terribly complex, so perhaps easier for me to insist that I get it all in one take. For me, it's just more fun that way. Playing a part over and over trying to get it down so that I can run through the whole piece is fun. That's when I get the most playing in actually...learning my own songs as I go.

Cheers, mate. Yeah, I've just got the vocals to do now. I'll just get the verses done and work on the choruses for god knows how long. Maybe I'll eventually get them right by luck!

On the lack of editing thing, I agree with you. Its just something I find satisfying, I also like to get things to the point where they're into total unconscious muscle memory. If it works for you to chop and edit stuff that's cool, but it just doesn't feel right with me. I can see the cut lines in Reaper and just their presence irritates me... maybe I have a bit of OCD about this.

I know! I can't make myself do it.

Once I've finished writing the song, have the structure worked out and the drum track together I quite like playing it through anyway.

Gents, since sorting all my shit out in my various directories of recording stuff I've made a list of things to finish.

This one is first:

Give me a hand getting everything to sit together nicely.

I like the way things are panned, guitars out wide. It creates a pocket in the center for the vocal, bass and kick to sit without sacrificing the heaviness of the guitars. No muddiness or harshness that I can hear. Balance of levels between guitars, bass, kick and snare is right on. Nice ambiance on the vocal and the various atmospheric lead guitar lines. It's a fairly wet mix but stays clear during the heavier parts and suits the song. Guitars are sounding good. I think this is well on its way. I'm sure others will make more specific suggestions. Good job. Keep them coming.

Cheers, mate. Something about it is bugging me a bit, and not just the slight flangy/phasey effect on the screams at the start of each chorus where they float slightly in and out of tune with eachother. The verses are OK, but I don't think the vocal sounds in the same space as the band during the chorus.

Yeah, you are right. The vocals seem off key and sort of monochromatic, especially during the chorus. You're not quite hitting the "Heyyyyyyy"s, and the your doubling is pretty loose. I can tell you want that part to rip, and it could with some work.

The guitars do sound terrific: and that's an amazing bass sound, best I've heard in awhile - hard to believe it's a sim.

My only bone of contention is the tempo, I could hear this about 4 bpm faster, but that's nitpicky!

Then it would be drifting towards punk - This one is definitely supposed to be more durgey and grungy. I tend to drift between Grunge, Punk and Metal (not modern metal) though.

Cheers anyway - I do really like this song so its really nice that its nearing completion (finally).

I really like it. :D Why are you worried about your vocals? Everything is very clear - almost too clear, to the point of needing a tad more bottom end weight on the rhythm guitars, I think. This is as metal as I ever get in my musical tastes - it's more in the genre of pixies/smashing pumpkins etc, so it's ok by me!

Really? Cheers Bubba. Sometimes I like it, sometimes I hate it (the vocal performance I mean) I really like this song though so I wanna make sure I have it right now I hear it in my head. How's it mixed in? I was really happy with the pre vocal mix of this track.
