The New Tone Thread

A cousin of mine came by today & offered me one of those EVH 15w heads for my e-drum kit. I told him I'd trade him straight up, that I didn't have much cash because of the computer issue. I don't use the e-kit that much anyway, so it'd clear out some room, give me another flavor of tone, without really being out anything...

I'm not sure, but that might be the same amp my buddy had here a week or so ago, because I don't see a couple of hillbillies buying the same gear like that. If it was a Line 6, maybe...I tried to get in touch with my buddy, but couldn't...

I'll let you guys know if this happens or not...

custom has more presence on all settings .... interesting .... it cuts thru the mix better than the goldtop ........ 'blind melon' greg in tha' hpuse!

I over estimated the amount of shit my non work life had waiting for me when i got back. I am just getting around to sitting in my music room with my noise makers. And i will be back abroad saturday. Oh well. I had all the best intents. I'll see what i can't come up with now.

Greg got his digits all bunged up did he? That sucks man. Hopefully it doesn't affect the amounts of rock and roll that fires from his fingers like the Emperor in Star Wars. Anyways, my time is precious. I should squandor it all here with you turds. I might check out a few tones though while i am here.

Rumor has it i will have internet when i get back to the house i am staying at so i can at least be part of forum from time to time.

Okay fuckers, if you aren't sick of my new Custom yet, you will be now.

So I did what JDOD suggested and did a basic blues progression with messy shit leads all over it using both guitars.

The lineup is this...
Gibson Les Paul Custom - original T-Top neck/bridge pickups
Gibson Les Paul Traditional - 57 Classic neck/Burstbucker 3 bridge

Rhythms:
Left - LP Custom, neck pickup with the vol rolled way down
Right - LP Traditional, neck pickup with the vol rolled way down

Leads:
First lead is the Goldtop Traditional. Starts on neck pickup rolled way down, then goes to neck pickup full blast, then switches to bridge rolled down about halfway, then bridge full blast.
Second lead is the Custom, same scenario. Neck low, neck full, bridge about half, bridge full power.

Marshall Plexi 1987x - 50 watt
Presence - 5
Bass - 4
Mid - 8
Treb - 4
Vol 1 - 5
Vol 2 - 2
Y-cable into both high inputs.
Weber Mass attenuator down to around 4.
Marshall 1960A 4x12
Greenback, Audix i5, on axis, on grill, dustcap/cone seam
G12-65, SM57, on axis, on grill, dead center
50/50 blend
No EQ or FX on guitars
Direct bass
Fake ass drums

See what you think of a hack punk rocker trying some blues.

Blues Gives Me The Blues

This is the whitest shit i have ever heard. Ever. and i hang out with alot of old ass white guys with expensive guitars and no taste in music.

With that said though, that sound of that lead around 1:50-2:20 made my ears super happy. I REALLY like that sound. right up my alley. It is safe to say I would use that tone for any lead work for any project. It is just ideal to my personal flavorings and junk. Well done man. Great idea for a project. Simple and purpose served.

For as hilarious as this was i enjoyed the shit out of it.

Clean-ish tones, anyone?

This is something I started working on last night, so really just a few hours ago. I have an idea where I'm going with it, but it's really just an embryo right now. It's going to rely a lot on the drum beat, so this robotic, programmed thing is close to the beat I want, but it has no feel. This sounds nowhere near what I hear in my head. But I know it will once I get the arrangement together.

I'm mainly concerned with the tones, they're pretty much all clean.

The riff that starts the song and is panned in the middle is my Gibson SG Neck Pick-up.
Guitar on the left is Gibson SG Bridge pick-up.
Guitar on the right is Epiphone SG Neck pick-up.

Off to a good start?

I like how drummers pick, strum and palm mute with razor precision. This is super tight man. Scratch track or not be damned. it is cool.

I like the tone of your SG as it is. It sits in there really nice. The Epiphone seems to be a little distant or dark? Could use a bit sharpening up and the two would compliment each other nicely i think? to my ears anyways? Interested to see where this song goes Rami.

Not sure if anyone else heard it but i was picking up some serious Mario Brothers vibes in parts of that song. Made me pretty happy.

Greg, that's both good and hilarious. Doesn't sound like you're really feeling it, mate.

Guitars sound good though.

I had some Mountain Dew last week - it came free with the pizza. I'd forgotten what it tested like. It was a week ago & I can't remember what it tasted like - fickle faculties at my age.

Lt Bob, I've been eying off the RAH & listening to every vid/demo available - I love it but have absolutely no use for it. It's is one cool must have though.
Monkees supported by Jimi - that didn't last long If I recall. I listened to Star Collector yesterday - that was a song with some double entendres and some potential but fell flat.
Greg, I like the Y jump idea. I'll try it. I should get my act together & mod my Superbass. Punkyard Blues was an interesting excursion all you need is a super long cable to knock off some more highs - I read that was a THINg.

Lol. Funny comments. Thanks for sitting through that shit, guys. :D

As you can hear, my blues tricks are bland, uninspired, and uninteresting. I don't have the blues, so it's only natural that I can't play it. Hell I don't even know if that could be considered "blues". It almost sounds country to me. That corny bass line is awful. Lol. Anyway, I'm pleased with how both guitars performed though. I prefer the 57 Classic neck pickup in the Traditional, but I so rarely use neck pickups it's a moot point. I'm madly in love with both guitar's bridge lead sounds though.

Ray - Speaking of cables...You know what I'm seeing more and more? Old school coiled cables. There seems to be a trend going with indie and garage bands to go back to using coily cables. I don't know if it's the vintage look, or if it's the high freq attenuation, but fuck me they're showing up everywhere again. And you know, if one cool person uses one, everyone else will.

hahaha.
Boot scootin' blues.
Very good sound on everything as usual and I thought all the guitar tones were great.

I did a jingle for the grocery store I work for. They are going to do a silly Market man super hero promotion. The drums are 2 overheads and a LDC on the kick. The bass is direct into the interface. The guitar solo is my 66 strat into a fender mustang modeling amp set on "64 deluxe" preset. Input a SM57 right on the outside edge of the speaker

the 60 second spot.

the 30 second radio spot

nice commercial ..... I've done a few of those ..... they'll put it so far in the background of aany voice over you'll wonder why it was even needed.
But a nice job nonetheless.

thanks Lt.bob.
yeah, the "It's marketman" at the beginning and "a super savings hero...marketman" at the end is basically what will be heard on the radio. Voice over ad copy will dominate the body of the radio spot. But, the TV crew came in and shot a TV commercial of everyone wearing the marketman shirts and acting crazy. They are going to play that with no voiceover...just the jingle. I'm anxious to see how it comes out.

@ lt bob,

Listened to chocolate cake. Some of the playing reminds me of early Chicago Transit Authority. :)
Good shit.

Well.....got the new power supply this morning, popped it into the pc and....computer won't fire up...all fans are running, & the new power supply is doing what it's supposed to (AFAIK), but still nothing. There were only a few connections to make, & AFAIK, I've got 'em all connected right, I even tried with just the main/boot drive connected in several of the sata ports and.....nothing...:(

So, looks like I'll be buying another computer after all, unless this power supply is faulty (which is possible), so I'm stumped for now...

cool ..... I have no idea what 'chocolate cake' is but I'll take the compliment anyways!

Oh shit, that must of been someone else's tune in this thread. Sorry, my bad for the confusion. Too many lacquer fumes. :D

Jimi... That sounds great. But fuck me it's super surreal and weird. Is that you saying "take that, high price" it would make me want to shop there just to see if the staff are as weird as their taste in adverts.

Thanx dude. Nice to see you back. Kik off your shoes and stick around a while.

Thanx, I'll keep that in mind. I think the "darkness" on the Epi comes from the fact that we're comparing the Epi's neck pick-up to the bridge pick-up of the Gibson. Different sound, too. I'll keep one ear on that as the tune progresses. I've already changed it a lot since posting.

HA! That's funny. I don't know anything about Mario bros or any other games. I don't even own a cel phone. I'm still in the 70's.
