reminds me a bit of an eric johnson tune in the beginning...
this is a better mix than the first one,
which i listened to last week,
and got caught up in a crap storm at work and never wrote the review...
i like the idea of the voices being doubled,
but i would automate the 2nd/3rd lead vox tracks out when they don't converge exactly right,
it's distracting and does not actually help.....
i always edit off tracks that are not actually adding anything,
or better yet,
mix them in and out in specific places, or phrases, or even single words..
the kick is a little hot compared to everything else...
there is nothing wrong with mixing into a compressor across your drum buss,
you just have to really know what you are doing and know you are getting the result you want....
whatever is the hottest thing going into the buss compressor, is what's going to drive it..
so,
if you have it set so that only the loudest things trigger it, it will pretty much leave everything else alone,
which is the job of a compressor in this instance.
separating the overheads from the drum buss is a good idea, i do it all the time.
