Hi,

I'm trying to set up my own home studio. I have two NT1-A rode microphones and I have the focusrite Safire 6 USB audio interface. I also have a mixer and a PC.

My question is I need to buy some studio speakers. Can anyone recommend any which will attach to my focusrite Safire 6 USB audio interface and what adapters will I need as I know there are specific ones, (I'm new to all this)

Just need to some recommendations on what the the best quality speakers I should buy?? :)

Thanks

Budget and room size should be your main considerations...
I use Yamaha HS-7s and a guy I work with uses some Fostex Monitors. One of my best mates uses KRK Rokit 5s and way back I had a pair of Tannoy Reveals...
All capable. All help to produce good music.
Worth looking at JBL LSR305's as well as they're consistently receiving praise on some of the other forums I frequent.

Have a look at this review:

Ten Of The Best: Studio Monitors - Attack Magazine

This will give you an idea of what you can get from relatively cheap to very expensive. It will also give you clues about what to expect and what to look for.

Good article. Nowadays there is so much to choose from.
On that list, I can vouche for the Equator D5.
Good speakers. Excellent detail, imaging, and they will crank. The position is best closer to you, as they are designed to be direct field monitors.
The bass is actually not that bad as they make it seem. It's not hefty, but has more bottom end than my Yamaha NS10s, and people have been mixing hit records on those for decades.

Whatever you get, learn them! Spend time just listening to commercial cds on them, and compare to your mixes.

hello guys, i also look for a pair of studio monitors to buy I was thinking abt the adam A7X but I have read an article that makes me reconsider. in the article they mention something abt THD and they say it should be around 0,001% and if it is around 0,3%-1% it will add distortion. Is that true? i am asking because the A7X have 0,5% here r the links for the article and the A7x specks.

Also what other specs should i pay more attention to, besides frequency range?
Any other recommendations u could make for a pair of active monitors around the 1000 euros price point? (pair)

The article, when mentioning 0.001%, is referrring to audio circuitry, not to the speaker.

Adams are pretty good speakers, and I reckon harmonic distoritoin will be the least of your worries.

A good idea is to arm yourself with a CD that you reckon sounds brillant, and take it to a place that sells monitors, then audition the montors by playing the CD through them, then pick the pair you like the sound of best.

ok I see, but I have another question, if I do listen to monitors inside of a store that probably has a room with acoustic treatment and defenetly the room will be bigger than mine, won't that make the monitors sound different that they will sound in my room? so even if i like the monitors in the store cuz they will sound good to me at the time, i may not like they way they will sound in my room. am i wrong with that way of thinking?
And what exactly do u mean when u say it will be the least of my worries? u r scaring me lol

Yes, ANY speakers will sound diferent in your room. Try to buy from a place that will let you return the speakers after a short try out period.

And if you don't already have it, acoustic treatment (bass traps, not foam!) is absolutely needed in your room. Spending a ton of money on the best monitors won't do you any good if the room sounds bad.
