Very Nice. Great guitar tone and you played it very well. One of my favorite Beatle tunes.

Thanks bud! I wasn't going to do it ... but I couldn't help myself. I added harmonies since you listened.

Nice. Really good work. I think this should go into the show off thread. I can't imagine much if any mix comments.

... and to think I just learned this minutes before I recorded it. :)

The damn 12 string kept going out of tune ... and you never know which freakin' one it is.

I don't hear a huge problem w/ the 12 string, but the vocal is a bit pitchy. Sounds like a first take.
Not a big problem, but not as perfect as one might expect.
I feel like a dick! :(

Admittedly, I didn't put a lot of time or effort into it. It is a first take ... and then I mixed and posted it. I'll give it another listen this morning. All I have to do is re-track the lead. All the settings are the same and it would take only a few passes to make it better.

---------- Update ----------

:D I like it.

Thanks guy!

Yup. It sounds like that to me as well.

If you have only just learnt the song and done a quick take, that would explain it. It is actually a very difficult song to sing because of the long phrases . . . and you need to practice where to catch your breath so it doesn't sound like you are running out of air. It might be worthwhile listening to the original to see where the breathing spots are.

Even the pitchy spots weren't terrible. I just mention it because it seems like more of an issue than the 12 string, which, to my tin ears, sounded fine. :D

Very nice tone on the acoustic. Nice vocal recording too. Yeah, I heard the slight bit of pitciness. It's hard to do such a well known John Lennon song like this. Everyone has heard him singing it for decades and it's almost a sonic shock when a voice other than his starts singing.. especially on a very close arrangement like this.
So, you're battling that too. Your vocal is almost under a microscope.
That being said, I enjoyed it!
Great effort k-dub.

Well I just gave up trying to sing because of you. Thanks a lot, Matt.

Thanks Jim!

I really didn't throw a lot of time into this, and as Beez noted, this was a one take pass at it. I could devote more time to polish it up, as it's really just a matter of flipping a few switches and re-tracking. I'm not certain the slight imperfections bother me all that much for what is essentially a quick knock off of a song I'd just learned.

Ha - so true. I was reading the words as I was singing, and I really hadn't practiced the phrasing ... at all ... before I recorded it. I did have the benefit of knowing the song like the back of my hand, but I'd never actually played and performed it before.

Yeah, not to repeat what has already been said. But it sounds like what it is, a first quick take by someone who wasn't totally familiar or comfortable with the song. It's good and it's not an easy song either way, so good job for sure. But I'm sure you can do this way better. The actual SOUND of everything is really good.

This isn't the easiest song to cover with your particular voice. Lennon could sing very smoothly if he chose....that's the spirit of this song.....smooth.

Your vocal harmonies help a lot because they serve to significantly differentiate between your's and the original. I like a cover that doesn't depart seriously from the basic compositional structure of the original but plays with timing and the arrangement. Your's does this but the vocal tone is strike one from the standpoint of capturing the spirit. I'd aim to nail the vocal in terms of pitch so that wasn't strike two. :)

This is a favorite Beatles tune....so there's shoes to fill here... :)

Thanks Rami! I am going to redo the vocal and get it right. The song deserves it.

Your last line is the one that convinced me that song deserves better treatment than a first pass job. :)
