Hello, It's me again!
I recorded a song, just to see for the quality, using the 24 bit/48 kHz format. Everything was quite wonderful until it came time to do the Mastering. I tried boosting the sound level with Compression (library CD) and when listening back, it overloaded, distorted and even refused to play after a certain moment in the song - making sort of spanking noises and lighting up RED. I also tried simply Normalizing to boost once again and had the same reaction.
Is the 24bit/48KHz format allergic to boosting in general?
Thank you very, very much for any and all insight into this particular problem.
(I was really happy with the recording and would love to be able to down-grade it to 16 bit; is this possible?)

Did you happen to normalize your master before you applied compression? If not........were your tracks recorded very hot......as in right around 0db???
