Hello, Anyone know where I can get a free download of the user/service manual for this model? I thought AnalogRules.com was a good place but when I downloaded the manual under the MSR16 link I got the MS-16 Manual . That's very cool..cept I don't need another copy of that. I just purchased one of these. It seems to have a loose Reel Clamper. I'm not sure how to remove the clamper's. I removed the center screw, and gave it a slight tug but it still feels tight at that point.

The centre screw removes the clamper, the looseness usually comes from the fact that the plastic clamper has either stretched slightly or has broken inside. If the actual reel is loose on the clamper try putting a piece of card (business card thickness) between the reel and the clamper retainers.

Alan.

Thanks witzendoz. So, I should remove the center screw and pry the clamper up from the Reel table? The clamper in question is the TU side, and with the reel mounted it feels a lot more "spongy", and loose than the supply side.

I have a copy of the MSR-16 operations manual from AnalogRules.com, but honestly the quality is SOOOO bad it is nearly all entirely illegible. :(

The clampers come off with a little effort if they have been on there for a long time, or maybe since new. You remove that screw and then some careful light impact from a rubber mallet will dislodge the clamper from the reel table...the plastic clamper tends to bind to the rubber surface of the reel table. And as Alan mentions there are a couple different reasons for the looseness...sometimes even one or more of the plastic fingers that actually hold the reel to the table have cracked.

Get it off of the reel table and have a closer look.

Sorry I couldn't be of more help with the manual though...Teac in Montebello, CA is likely to be your best bet.

As Sweetbeats said, the clamper reel comes off with very little effort, but it does get stuck on the rubber behind it if it has not been removed for a long time. It should not need excessive force. When you get it of, give it a shake, if there is a piece of plastic floating around inside it is probably broken. Back to the tip of using a bit of card, what you also find is that different tape manufacturers used slightly different thickness reels, for example the emtec reels were slightly thicker than the ampex reels, so that if you used Emtec for a while then put a ampex on, the clamper was sometimes stretched a little from having the thicker reel on.

Just a tip, if you need a new clamper reel, get a price form Tascam spares, some of the prices being charged on ebay etc, are outrageous.

Alan.

Thanks Corey, and Alan. I got it off. It was just a little stuck. Had a closer look even took the three tiny screws out and separated the half's. Was some (very) tiny plastic came out. Other than that I didn't see anything broke. Oh well. Alan this one needs a business card folded three times to tighten-up! I'll be shopping for a new one. I'll give Tascam a try for both. Thank you Guys.
