TASCAM US-1800 installer has stopped working......

You might be able to try a System Restore. Go back a week or so....
We'll keep hacking at this until we get it working right. :)

I tried one earlier. It said I never created a restore point. I think we would have had to go back to before i installed the 800, which is a long time ago.

I've been putting off calling a guy to fix other issues with my computer, like restoring the hard drive from my other computer. So, now I guess it gives me a reason to call him.

Chili, how long can you wait to either get the 1800 back or the 800 if I get my issue fixed? Dude might not be able to come over until next week.

I don't know how similar Windows 8 is to 7, but this worked for me when I had a problem removing some programs when I got the same message you did when trying to remove something. Try starting your computer in safe mode, the open control panel>add, remove programs and see if the offender is listed there. then do the remove thing.

Thanx man. I'll try that now.

Probably will be needing it in early December. Until then, take your time. No worries. :)

Fuck. God damn computer opened too quickly to even give me a chance to open in safe mode. What am I supposed to hold down? F11 or something like that?

If ridding of the old driver doesn't work, here is another option to try:

Download the 1800 driver. Open the file and unzip it to a folder. Open that folder and right click on the exe installer file. Go to 'compatibility' tab and see if there is a W7 option. Install for W7 and see if that works.

I can't remember off the top of my head (I don't have my US800 anymore) but when you open a tadcam Driver Installer, does it check for previously installed drivers and offer to remove them?

It might be worth trying to reinstall the 800 and then when that's all a go go, trying install the 1800 over the top.

Or maybe I'm pissing in the wind.

Hope you get it sorted soon. I blame Windows 8 :thumbs up:

OK, I just tried that. It only gave me the choice of Windows 7, even though my computer is W8. I couldn't get it to try compatibility with W8.

Also, earlier, I was getting a square that said "Installer has stopped working.....". Now, I get a different kind of square that says "Installation Failed". I'd understand if it was just a case of it not working with Windows 8. But how can the 800, which they stopped supporting in 2011, work with W8, while the 1800 doesn't. Actually, I'm sure the 1800 does work with 8, but for some fucked reason, my computer isn't un-installing the 800.

Haven't read the thread but safe mode is usually mash f8.
Don't hold it, just hit it over and over at the start of the boot sequence.

With 7, keep tapping F8 from the moment you turn power on. My apologies, I should have mentioned that. When it starts up, you should have a black screen with very basic text. It may take a couple of tries. When it boots one item should be highlighted. Arrow up or down until "open in safe mode" is selected then press enter. Be patient, you are asking your computer to shut down a lot of stuff it normally runs automatically. I hope this helps. Just keep repeating to yourself "computers make my life easier...".

Curious..... you downloaded the driver file from Tascam which is a compressed zip file. Did you extract the files to a temporary directory or possibly try to run setup.exe from within the zip file which could be viewed from Explorer?

Yes, I extracted it to my desk top. It starts the process and tells me to plug in the USB, etc....and then either says "Installer has stopped working" or "Installations failed". It still loves my 800 though.

OK thanx man. No, as frustrating as this is, it will not win by ruining my night. :)

The 4 main files you want to look for and delete regarding the US800 are:

US800Asio.dll
US800Drv.sys
US800Pan.exe
US800Wdm.sys

I believe they're the little buggers giving you all this grief.

That is what you want. Compatibility mode for W7. I have W7 so if I had software that ran only up to Vista, I would use compatibility mode for Vista. Make sense?

Also, just because it is the same company, does not necessarily mean that a driver from a newer product would work any better on an OS it wasn't designed for.

In fact, I am not convinced the 800 driver has anything to do with this. The driver is totally not the same. There isn't even a separate control panel for the US1800 like there is with the 800. Plus, I was using the 1800 when I bought all of those 800's and tested it here. Both drivers installed and worked independently....

Suck Cess!!!!!!!!

OK, got it!!!!

What I did was re-install the US-800, but after it said "Un-installed older files....continue?", I hit EXIT instead. So, I figured at that point that the 800 files were gone. I then tried installing the 1800 and it decided to work. I could have sworn I already tried that earlier today, but I guess not.

Anyway, it's working, I selected the 1800 as my device, I'm now tapping my mic and watching meters jump and hearing a bumpy sound. It's a beautiful thing!!!!

The only thing is, I can't get the 1800's control panel to show me all the channels the way the 800 did. I don't really care, because I never used it's console anyway, but does the 1800 not have the same kind of console as the 800? It does give me a console, but it has very basic info, like the in's and out's. The 800's console was set up like a mixer, which I didn't use but still wonder if I should be seeing the same kind of thing with the 1800.

I can't thank each one of you enough. You guys were there for me and hung in there with me. I really love you guys.

I'm trying to rep all of you, but I'm getting the "Need to spread" message for pretty much every one of you guys.

Awesome. I feel so much better. Now I can go on my bike ride with no stress.

I never saw any kind of control panel. Not that I remember. I think I've always used whatever was in Cubase. Maybe it linked to the 1800 driver. Jimmy will know for sure.... :)

Glad it's working for ya. I hate that feeling of frustration.

Still. Hold on to the 800 for a while. Make sure the 1800 does what you want. yadda yadda...

RAMI... be careful while playing around between the two interfaces not to accidently grab the wrong adapter cord  . The US-1800 is evidently a 12vdc adapter, the US-800 a 5vdc wart.
Thanx. Yeah, the 800 is already in the box ready to be shipped to Chili.

For those of you that don't know the story, I had posted about getting a new interface a few days ago. Within hours, Chili offered to trade my 800 for his 1800 straight up. We both got our respective interfaces from Jimmy a year or 2 ago for $100.

So, this is all about Jimmy's and Chili's generosity. When the time comes for me to ever change interfaces, I'll be giving this one away for free to someone who needs it, just to pay all the generosity forward. I won't be changing it for a while, but when the time comes, I will.

In the mean time, I'm going to be ordering a new mic from B&H or Sweetwater in the next few days, so I will be giving away my current vocal mic, which is an AKG C3000B. I'll figure out a way to decide who to give it to in the next few days. Maybe I'll post some tracks and have a mix contest with the mic as the prize. :)
